Auto targeting - no usually "solution"
I just want to find a ship, move into position (usually off to its side, me not moving waiting for it to pass in front of me), and have the speed, ID, AOB, BFD, whatever automatically figured out... then say "fire" and see if I hit the darn thing. I'm the captain, right? Aren't I supposed to have crew members doing all this form me? I want to play the game from a high-level, not low, detail, nitty-gritty level.
Sim/shmim, I doubt the captain was running around the sub spinning this dial, grabbing that slide rule, moving those levers... Captians issue orders. I just want to
How do I get a solution when I don't have "manual targeting" checked? I "lock" it on the scope. I've found it in the recon manual and clicked the check-box to send it to the TDC. I've tried "track target" (the red light in the left slide-in box on the F3 screen) and turned that off I've tried it "L" locked and not-locked Sometimes I have that line on the attack-map indicating the torp path, sometimes I don't... it's really annoying trying to sink a ship by getting into point blank range because the torpedo's just go straight no matter what. :( |
For auto targeting look for a green triangle in the scope on the target. You "can" take shots when its yellow but there not optimum.
Press L to lock and follow the target. Thats all you have to do. Select which tube, open its doors Press "Q" wait a few moments then fire. The opening doors thing is a bit critical in that if you dont it will screw up the "fix" by delaying the shot a few seconds. If its a long shot those seconds really add up. It is best to get as close as possible to limit the amount of errors possible. Also note that if your using Mark10's there range is limited. As to the "tracking lines" on the attack map its a known bug. Espically if your home port is Pearl. |
Okay, cool. I was interpretting no tracking lines as no solution. And yes, I am out of Pearl.
In SH III I used to 'lock', then unlock and tweak the range or depth a little to account for slight inaccuracies (seemed to have better luck shortening the range than what came up with "auto"). Not sure if that's possible here or not but that's the extent of "manual" targeting that I'm interested in. Well, thanks. I've only played the game for a few days, and lost my 1st career because of this. I surfaced to take out some ships with the deck gun and got bombed from the skies. :( Thanks for the info. I was doing it right I guess but assumed it was wrong because nothing on the attack-map/screen. |
Its a weird bug that if you start north of the date line you get no track on the Attack Map.
There are some work around mods. Another little thing is that the torps run slightly slower than what you set them for (if your using imperial units). |
no box showing torpedo going towards ship
In all other sub games it shows the torpeodo leaving the tube with a box and going towards the ship. I have not seen this so far why is this so.???
