Finishing a Patrol

I was having a problem getting the benocular icon to change color to grey. Then I started a new carrer and was sent to the So. China Sea to sink shipping. When I got close to the area. I used the devider and drew a circle around it of 100 mile radius. As soon as I hit the outer rim of the circle, the icon turned grey and I recieved a message to patrol the S.C. sea. I opened the capt. log and the first part of the assignment was marked as complete. Perhaps this is the correct way to complete a patrol. If this works for another one I'll post again.
