Slow to submerge...

I am in a new career in a type VII B.....I just stopped to refuel and take on provisions before heading back to St. Nazaire.....on my way up just west of Gibralter I was forced under by some Hurricanes....I ordered the alarm and it took forever to get under....I had a good head of steam going also.....and then I find it extremely hard to get past sixty meters for some damned reason.....well I finally level off at sixty five and then find that the sub will not stay trimmed at depth......my question is.....Is this a random problem generated by Sub Cmdr??? I have never experienced this behaivor before....and my crew is fairly experienced to boot......Just wondering...

Do you have Commander with the sabotage/breakdown checked?

Slick Rick 03-21-07 01:23 PM

Only the malfunctions.....Is this one type of malfunction it gives you?

ReallyDedPoet 03-21-07 01:29 PM

I have had ahead flank affected by this, the malfunction option, sounds like that is it.

I always do a couple of checks before going to far, ahead flank and a Crash Dive to make sure those particular items are working properly:yep:

I ran into a convoy later on and took a little damage from a Black Swan...but I let the water remain in the forward Crew rest area as it served as ballast....this was the only way I was able to stay at depth......

From the sound of it it seems that Black Swans are always happy to help a German u-boat "submerge".

Getting back up to the surface is your own problem though

Use the elements/dynamics to your advantage :arrgh!:

The VIIC dives like a rocket it does, compared to all the other bigger boats, but when it comes to sheer superspeed diving, you cannot beat the IID, it drops like a stone during a crash dive.

GoldenRivet 03-21-07 07:09 PM

OHHHH

this is making some sense now - i had sabotage and mal****tions checked and the boat wouldne go to flank when selected... i would order flank speed and it would drop to ahead slow no matter what i would do.

is this a malfunction that sh3 commander simulates??

Now THAT is brilliant. Thats the sort of creative thinking that usually doesn't go into computer games, but I'm sure some real life Kaleun had to have thought it up.

Now thats what those malfunctions are all about. Makes you creative.

This quote should be like the mascot for SH3 Sabotage/Malfunctions.

I had exactly the same malfunction happen to me in my IXB, only this was just as I was aproaching Calais outbound from Willhelmshaven on the surface running through the narrowest part of the channel. When I ordered 'crash dive', the boat would go down to 3 Kts . Due to faulty hard drives in the past I have had to restart my career at least three times in a VIIb, as I remember one malfunction which was always there first time out was some water in one of the forward compartments which wouldn't pump out. It made attacking at periscope depth at silent running speed impossible. Anything under full ahead and the boat would go down too low. As I use the free view, I finaly, after a long while noticed that one of the port side torpedo tube outer doors and bow cap was jammmed open. Don't know if this is the trim problem you mentioned. As it's a new career it sounds like it might be.
