Missing vessels?
Curious why there seem to be alot of ommisions in the types of boats some world navies have in the game. For example, North Koreas 20+ Romeo class boats are not included....nor are any of there warships, with the exception of a few fast attack rocket boats....

Yes .. but that can easily be modded as far as I know. Try to ask in LWAMI thread.

Does anyone else remember the days when wargames were all about the good databases and mechanics and not about the graphics? |

I spent too many hours in college playing RSR when I should have been studying...
SeaQueen - can you expound upon this statement: "My first computer naval sim was Red Storm Rising. In all honesty, it's internals are more sophisticated than a lot of models the Navy uses today for simulation."? I've often wondered what was behind RSR in terms of tactics and database-type information. Do you know anyone who has managed to decompile the game? Or was an SDK released at some point? |
So lets say the Russians sell the North Koreans some aging war ships. What do you guys think they could get? Im using the Grisha right now....

Check out Advanced Gaming Systems Inc. for the classic Harpoon, Harpoon Classic 2002, and Harpoon III Advanced Naval Warfare.

If only there could be some way we could use SCXIIc models in DW then that would be good not to mention the interchanger.
|
I don't know anyone who's decompiled it. The thing is, it takes into account a lot of stuff that naval analysts still find difficult to wrap their brains around like countermeasures and decoys, evasion, etc. These things are notoriously difficult to deal with in a rigorous way so even a lot of models used by the navy for decision making don't take them into account or make sweeping assumptions about them.

again for SeaQueen...
While we are talking about M&S type stuff...what do you think of NSS? Have you used or encountered it up at NAVSEA? I was hoping I'd find someone who had gotten under the hood of RSR. I've always wondered what it would be like to drive the other (enemy) boats in the game, and of course change the database like we do with DW. |
