Surfacing & Diving Sounds
I hear lots of noise when the boat is diving. Blowing ballast, hatches closing etc. I really like the sounds of the boat in action. However, when I order the boat to surface, I don't hear anything except the order repeated to "surface the boat". I hear very little else if anything.
My question is for the GW mod folks is this........ 1. Is there supposed to be lots of surfacing noise? Blowing air, levers pulled, hatches being opened, in general racket that would be heard when the boat is in the process of surfacing. 2. Am I missing something in the down load? 3. If there are no sounds, will there be lots of surfacing noise in the new GWX mod? 4. Thanks for the GW mod! So far, I really like it and what I've read about the GWX, I'll like this game even more. |
there is a mod for the emergency surface order that didnt come with default sh3 (should be in grey wolves)....so if you give the order to blow ballast/emergency surface..you will hear extra sounds such as the air rushing through the hull of the ship and the metal knocking as it adjusts to the pressure....
as for the regular surfacing order......its mostly just dive planes and the diesel engine as the sequence is modelled in the sh3 game.......so I think the sound is about right... surfacing was much quieter than diving.....there was less of a rush to open things as there was to closing things during a dive....when diving you were flooding the ballast tanks with tons of seawater and everything had to be closed right away before it submerged....so, i think there is a noticeable difference between the two...and I think its moddeled just right.... Mod-wise you can make sounds for anything if you wanted to hear air movement in the ballasts etc. while surfacing..... but, it wouldn't match what is happening in game....your gauges for compressed air remain the same on a normal surface command...compressed air is only used during the emergency surface option... and is reason why I think people never bothered making a surfacing sequence.... I personally always wanted to have a sound linked to the compressor tanks refilling on the surface....like an engine sound inside the helm that would last until the tanks were full again then cut off.....but, there is no way of tying a sound to the gauge reading as the air refills or to the message the states the compressor tanks are 100%....it only comes in a text message. If ubisoft added a voice to this text....there could probably be an engine sound tied to it that would sound like an air compressor....only downside is your air compressor state is variable )based on how much air you use before surfacing/each time is different).....whereas as sound file is usually a fixed length and would need an interrupt for the engine sound once the tanks reached 100% full. |
I made a surface-sound including orders like Turm ist raus ("tower is through"), Turmluk ist offen ("Hatch is open"), 1. Seewache sich klar machen ("First watch-crew get ready") and Mann auf Brücke (asking for permission to enter bridge) etc.
Sounded really good and played for about 35 seconds. I replaced it for the "submarine surface"-file, when I discovered that the original surface file is played twice or three times in a row - so sadly my soundfile was pretty useless... Cheers, AS |
@AS
This file has to be transfered to .ogg to replace the Surface order in the Speech folder, and not used as .wav in the sound folder. :know: If you still have the file, i offer to do this while giving all credit to you. |
Unfortunately there is a separate dive routine sound, but no separate surface routine sound. If the surfacing sounds are incorporated into the surface order, and you give the order while 100 meters down, you'll hear the sounds long before you reach the surface.
SHII had a trigger for those sounds; SHIII does not. |

Thanks for the answers gentlemen. I also would like to see The Noob and AS get together on the sound file. If not, thanks anyway for the answers.

This is not the only thing they unfortunately forgot in SH3, what I also miss is that effect of sounds turning into a rumble at greater distances, this was soo cool and realistic in SH2. |
