[REL] Charts Addon 1.6 for Widescreen MaGui

May 23rd, 2015. CAWS 1.61.
- a typo corrected from dials.cfg
- a makman94 modified cameras.dat for players who use the mod with a 1366x768 screen
- a couple of mostly makman94 modified tga's for use with 1366x768 screen




The mod is a widescreen 1360x768 version of Charts Addon 1.4. It is meant for Widescreen Magui, but might work with other SH3 versions of similar screen proportions as well. I've only playtested the mod for WS MaGui+NYGM 3.6F, so don't be surprised if it doesn't work in a different setup.The mod is untested in career mode, so there likely are some glitches, that I'll try to fix if absolutely necessary and I happen to have the time. Installation through JSGME.

New compared to Charts Addon 1.4. for MaGui F:

- Leitender's Anschütz compass added
- Maneuvering board made bigger
- added a chart that shows how to use the attack disc for multiplication
- replaced Hitman's Gegnerfahrttafel with a speed chart made by LGN1
- added a chart that aids in distinguishing between cloud types

Special thanks regarding this newest version to makman94 (Widescreen Magui), Leitender (Anschütz compass) and LGN1 for the time/length/speed chart.

Thanks Leitender for giving the permission to use your compass here! It really is a beauty :ping: Hopefully widescreen players that hesitate editing menu_1024_768.ini will give your compass a try through JSGME, and then start experimenting with finetuning the game themselves :arrgh!:

Nice job. A boon to all the widescreenies (which these days is probably most SubSimmers).

BTW, I still get Hitman's Gegnerfahrttafel, and no new speed chart. Am I just missing it? I'm fine with Hitman's chart, but curious to see the new one.:)

That's curious. Do you see the speed table in the Layout folder? I named the new table gegnerfahrt.tga, just like the old table by Hitman. I'm on my phone right now but I'll have a look at this when I get to my laptop.

Some time in the distant past - maybe day before yesterday - I had swapped Hitman's Gegnerfahrttafel for LGN1's. Then I promptly forgot I had done so.

So I loaded up your Charts Addon v1.5 and looked for the "new" Gegnerfahrttafel. Guess what? It looked just like the "old" one! :doh:

Having read the war diary of U-480 over in the U-boatarchive I realised that at least some late war U-boats actually estimated regularly the speeds of the merchants and the escorts through listening to their propellers' sounds. Counting the screws and deducting the RPM's per minute from that :arrgh!:

That's why I made this SH3MissionEditor Mission where I let German type 34 destroyers run by me at different speeds. I counted the RPM's and took screenshots for a crude guesstimation of speed based on how the smoke coming from the funnels behave :ping:

This was something the Germans could have done very easily during the war. Of course it's possible that the type 34 destroyer's screw sounds are totally different to a Town class or River Class :dead:

Anyways, I'm planning on maybe adding the chart to Charts Addon one day. Here's the tga for anyone who wants to try it :salute:

The easiest way to try it, is just to drop it into the layout folder in charts Addon. Then it replaces the chart that tells how to multiply with an attack disc.

For anyone already using Charts Addon, just drop the tga's into the Layout folder. The new tga's will replace some of the old ones. Make backups if you want to keep the old ones!

I might make a new version of Charts Addon for MaGui WS some day, and then I'll do the menu work as well. For now it's just experimental :ping:

LGN1's SH3 Log mod forces one to make an estimation of the GRT of the ships one has sunk. With all the ships one can mod into SH3 nowadays, it sometimes happens, that one sinks a ship one does not recognize. In these cases I guess most of us just make a crude guess about the GRT.

The US Coast Guard has a formula for GRT calculations. Here's the formula changed into the metric system:

I haven't had time to try this in the game yet, so I'm not 100% sure I made the feet to meters conversion right, so maybe doublecheck the results with the recognition manual when possible.

I am at present using a 16:10 monitor but am looking to get a 16:9 with a res of 1920x1080 will your chart mod display ok, or will I have to manipulate the .ini?

It will load, but the charts will be here and there and there are some charts that would be on your way all the time. You would need to manually edit every x value by adding something like 560 pixels. Basically easy, but takes a lot of work and you would need to that to every TGA that the mod contains.
