Worried about saved games

I'm a bit worried about saved games in SH5. For example that AI will be able to respond to U-boat threat by rerouting convoys etc will be more than nice new feature. However, if data about the U-boat infested areas won't be included in save-files, then this whole new feature will be ruined at once...

And I really hope I don't have to run into corrupted save-files as often as with SH4. Especially when we are dealing with rather slow moving submarine simulation, then I think safe saving will be even more important.

I agree , the save game has to be 100% stable .

Why worry about something that may not be an issue? :-?

no need to worry, the devs promised we would have a whole new set of bugs and issues so i would guess saved games are part of that too :woot:

I'm worried about the font of the main menu.

If it's Comic Sans, I'm throwing the disc out the window :rotfl2:

What worries me is whether the menu font will be saved in the save file. Would hate my Comic Sans to revert to Times New Roman.

Nah, seriously, why worry about a) the unknown and b) something which you have no control over. Not worth it, especially for something as inconsequential (ie when compared to family, work, health) as a game.

What I would like though is the ability to peek/poke save game files. In other words, have the contents "visible" for editing and not compressed and saved in a proprietary "hidden" format. SH3 (maybe SH4 too, dunno) would have benefitted so much if save game files could be edited (better milk cow implementation, malfunction/sabotage management etc etc).

I don't think we have to worry about saves. SH4 handled them perfectly.

Having only played SH4 long enough to determine that I preferred SH3 (I know, heathen that I am), was the save game functionality a big improvement over SH3's? Or was it just as flaky?

i would say about the same, i get the impression that sh4 uses the same sh3 save game system but i never looked that closely at it.

sh4 save game system is buggy and you must follow rules of thumb to avoid save game corruptions

For me the SH4 saves were always ok. And I save whenever. Just my two cents.

Good point.
We all got burned with the SH3 saves. I'm sure the devs will fix this for SH5. :yep:

well thats the tricky part, 2 out of three people never have any problems but 1 in 3 do so i cant say it isnt buggy even though it has less issues then sh3

i will say this thou, since people have upgraded their computers most issues have gone away so i think it was memory based issues that upgrading to a better system with more ram solves

Jimbuna 10-28-09 03:11 PM

I was pretty disappointed at the marginal improvement in save game reliability that SH4 gave over SH3, especially when you consider the age difference between the two game engines.

I'm hoping for a vast improvement this time round.
