This post was made a sticky in this thread: http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=35175 I didn't want to HIJACK the original "Sticky" Thread but I want to know why the "Dev's" put out the word that they are "Looking for Modders" to include their work in a "Future version" of the game if there is to be, "NO FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF SHIII"???? :damn: I really wish they'd reconsider an expansion pack that this sim sooo desperatley needs. Heck they could have most of the work done for them, by the very talented modders out there. |
This is coming directly from my poor memory, but i believe that post was very old, and i *may* have read somebody's post that those submissions were actualy used in X1 softwares rip off product "expansion".

Is there any official information from UBI or their Dev team that there will be no more "NO FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF SHIII"?
This site says others:http://www.subsim.com/nucleus/index.php?blogid=4 Maybe Im just a to big optimist :hmm: |
u may find this of interest ... Ubisoft announced its line-up for its new fiscal year (April 2005 - March 2006) and in it is Silent Hunter 4.

I really hope they could fix this big things in the game like wolfpacks etc. in a add-on as they have promised. |

it seem's strange to me that there releasing SH4 so quickly considering that there was about a 2yr wait from SH2-SH3 perhaps it's going to be nothing more than an addon?i don't really know why an expansion couldn't be made. sadly there's no info forthcoming

There's no money in SubSims, so I am surprised there have been as many SH releases as there have been, although it was left alone for many, many years before 2 && 3 finally came to be. I fully expect any future installments to be buggy and poorly tested as well. |
If SHIV is nothing more than a seperate/independant game, using the SHIII engine, and released 1st quarter 2006, I can pretty much guarentee that there will never be any Official Addon to SHIII.
Maybe UBI feels instead, that they can make a better return on investment in the Asian market, with a Pacific Sub sim, rather than expand SHIII? :hmm: Would be a real shame. :nope: |

I also wouldn't mind too much if they did use the same engine and most of our mods work in SH4...... -Jeff |

Neverwinternights, the most throughoutly worked game ever in my opinion, released its last patch just a month ago, and that game is over 3 years old! (sh3's last patch came 2 months after release) Moreover, devs at bioware still releases extras and new adventures to the nwn game. Thats what i mean with dedication, its obvious they love their work and wont abandon it before really forced to it.. Ubisoft simply coldly counted on that the great mod-community would pickup the leftovers the clearly time-stressed devteam left to us. More money to be saved, at the cost of less gaming exp and longevity.. And no talk about theres no money in sub-sims, its so wrong. In the first place, they wouldnt even plan for a sequel if this was the case. Hopefully us customers gets more picky ove rth years to come, so game-developers realize its just stupid and bad for bussiness to release games as if they were micro-owen pizzas :D |

Ah the days of young, where I would be satisfied with so little. It being new or having a Cool Franchise Name stuck to it alone would have me into a drool. So it balances out, unfortunately and you keep spending money on broken games hoping that NEXT time they will get it right. But they never do. Its like aiming for a moving target. |
Personally, I don't know why more people don't just go and contribute to an open-source subsim like dangerdeep.sourceforge.net for example.
There's nothing 'spoilerish' about simulation games that requires development to be kept secret until release. Why wait for years for large corporations to throw you scraps from the table? Take control of production yourself if you're passionate about a subject! |
