SSD hard drive
Hi,
Planning to buy from long time an SSD drive, i will finally go for it in few weeks :sunny: I've choosen the Samsung SSD 840 500 Go, knowing and already having Samsung amazing quality products. I'm quite sure it will be a good improvment to run SH5 on my rig, mainly loading times will drop probably half time, but maybe playability will be even smoother. What do you think? Is it good choice? Will post in time the differences noticed VS my old drive when i'll get it  |
It's great upgrade.
I have been SSD user now for two years, Makes windows 7 start in seconds and cut's loading times. :yeah: Go for it. -haukka81 |
Thanks for feedback Haukka
Is game itself a bit smoother?...meaning when teleporting or accessing scopes, must be instantaneous...or panning around externals views? (i'm seconded by a ZOTAC 580) |

An SSD will drastically cut the loading times down. I have two OCZ Vertex 4's in a RAID 0 (SATAIII). It smokes :D |

loading times after sinking your boat or a reload after messing up your torpedo solution is much faster. For smooth teleporting, ... I suggest increasing your CPU clock: My PC runs on an Intel 2500K 3.3 GHz (stock), after a few hours playing I changed the CPU clock to 3.8 GHz. The higher CPU speed eliminated 99% of in game stuttering. |

I own an I7 875K @ 2.93 Ghz, and K means i can boost it  |
I don't think with the SSD this SH5 simulator can become smoother, to reach that goal I am just about (next month) to upgrade from LGA775 core 2 duo E8500 to LGA2011 IB-E 4820K, and from ATI HD5870 to Nvidia GTX770 :D with 16Gb of 1600MHz RAM/DIMM

Hi, I while ago I contacted Pintea (SH5 developer), this is his opinion about ATI Radeon or Nvidia selection to play SH5, I hope Pintea don't mind if I post his view about this ATI/Nvidia issue

They have almost the same raw power specifications, therefore it's hard to judge which one will actually run faster specifically on SH5. What I can tell you is that we had problems with ATI(AMD) cards an drivers, that's why I'm skeptical about ATI/AMD. |
Thanks for info
I'm not ready to change graphic card anyway, but was kind of tired of the triangles glitches due to Nvidia, each time i look up the sky. |
Don't forget to NEVER defrag your SSD.

learned something here today about SSD,s that i never knew.. After reading
Herr-Berbunch,s response,,looked this up : http://helpdeskgeek.com/featured-pos...defrag-an-ssd/ Thanks for adding that post Herr-Berbunch !:up::up: |

A good link. |

But i just learned about the trim feature, and the SSD i want support it  |
Having a lager number of cores helps out as well, because it allows the system to be somewhere else and keeps other applications away from the game increasing FPS, I get SH5 running at over 90+ FPS with forced AA 16x and max graphics.
My Phenom II x6 1100t is clocked at 3.4 Ghz with an old Nvidia GTX 570 blitzes most tasks with ease. Fast RAM helps, mine is at 1633 Mhz and it does the job quite well.:D My PC will start very quickly, about less than 20 seconds, but SSD's do have short life expectancy, my SSD died last year and I lost everything due to a random death of the drive. Now I have two SSD's on a RAID, so if one dies, I have a backup. :O: |

Stuttering is either cpu or gpu everytime. You mentioned your gpu but what about your cpu? I still have a dual core xeon running at a little over 4ghzs and it feeds my ati 7870 quite nicely on every game that I've played. Cpu will eventually become my weak point which will require me getting another motherboard, memory and I'll throw in the SSD harddrive aswell. But counting on just the SSD to smooth out your gameplay likely won't happen. |
Well, my SSD is ordered and on the way home...
Not really expecting smoother gameplay anyway, but loading times for sure :yep: My CPU is I7 quad core 2.9 Ghz actually, but i plan one day to get a new MB because mine is old, and btw to change for new sockets compatible latest powerfull CPU  I already have 16 Gb RAM... |
Quote:
I promise you, the 2.9Ghz is whats causing the breakup in smooth gameplay. Getting a faster gpu is going to require alot more Ghz on the cpu no matter how many cores you get. |
Yeah, and before i get new mother board, i'll probably overclock my I7 in the waiting...it's an I7 875K, so i know i can boost it.
Only problem, i can't do it myself...i have to find a guy here to do it for me. I don't want to melt my rig! :haha: |
