SH4 and Windows 7

Will Silent Hunter run on 64bit Windows 7? I have an IMac and will be partitioning my drive through boot camp to run Windows 7 64bit. Does anyone know if it will run?

Bilge_Rat 03-05-12 12:32 PM

win 7 64 bit here, SH4 runs like a charm. No worries there mate.

Ditto, to the above! Please be sure to read the Stickied thread on installing the game in Windows7 and Vista. There are some small tips that will make for a trouble free experience.

Win7 64-bit here, too, and the game is smooth as an elven arse for the first time in 5 years (with a 2-year break inbetween and a totally new rig built a few months ago)! Heck, I even installed in the default directory (Program Files(x86)) with no incident whatsoever...though I'm sure the Gods are chuckling right now and preparing some kind of mischief for my insolence :o

Holy cow! That makes me wonder: Will SH4 run in Windows 8? Do I even care to get a crowbar and wrestle with Windows 8 to see? Probably not....:woot:

Thanks for the input mates. Will give it a go.

Seems to work for me

aanker 03-21-13 10:35 AM

Yes it runs fine on Win7 64 bit in a folder off the root C:\

....... and YES RR, SH4 runs fine on Win 8 too!

Also runs on a beefy Mac with a Win sub-partition or whatever it's called. Amazing.

Happy Hunting!

Is it a clean installation, or did you use mods in previous occasions?

ElAurens 03-23-13 07:34 PM

Win 7 Pro 64 here, been running SH4 on it for a long time. No issues at all.

swamprat69er 03-25-13 04:16 PM

Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit w/16gigs ram and 2 nVidia Zotax 460GTX vid cards and it runs so good that I swear a rogue wave will get my face wet.
I loaded it in a dedicated hard drive but not in program files x86.

Runs fine on MacBook Pro, 8GB, using Bootcamp with Win7 and also native MAC OSX Lion (10.7) using Wineskin.

I'm currently running SH4 v1.5 with RFB and RSRD under Windows 8 and have not encountered any problems. It is running very smoothly, actually better than it ever did in Win XP.
The only gaming software that I have been absolutely unable to get to run under W8 is "Dangerous Waters."
Although I haven't tried SH3 yet as I've been focused on SH4 v1.5.
With the Radio Station Mods and RFB and RSRD it is a really good gaming experience.
I've also been setting up approach missions in SH4 mission editor with no problems. The practice missions are based on the Dick O'Kane method and the use of the Electronic Maneuvering Board which is really a piece of work that can be used in almost any tactical naval game and in real life too!

Black raven ... get your coffee cup off the down arrow key LOL

JagdPanzer44 03-27-13 07:00 PM

Well mine was running great. But I've since removed the mods and uninstalled. Going to re-install and see what happens, mod free first.

Was getting an appcrash when trying to end patrol. Also noticed I was getting strange graphical glitches inside the sub - white blocks where the dials should have been.

Hope it's just corruption, and a re-install does it.

Father Goose 03-29-13 01:29 PM

Win7 Pro 64bit. Runs perfectly, no issues.

JagdPanzer44 03-29-13 02:43 PM

Working fine now. Win 7 (64)

Stopped using the Steam version which was a mess, and bought the gold version.

No worries.
