500 meters crash bug and windspeed of 0 m/s
I had that crashed savegame bug that drops one’s boat to a depth of 500 meters in a jiffy.
The weather was perfect when I saved, no wind at all, there were no enemies close as far as I know, I was surfaced. My boat was unable to move, but I was able to teleport back to base. At other times I had this bug, teleporting was not possible – however at those saves I was submerged and had escorts on top of me. It might be worth a try to wait those escorts out and try teleporting back when they have left. But I have had this bug only three or four times, so I might remember the details of the previous 500 meter crashes incorrectly. I then came to think about a post in these forums where someone made a claim that saving at 0 m/s could cause these kind of crashes at times and that the solution would be to change the weather parameters of the savegame. So I exited the game, went back to SH3Commander and booted the game again. I use SH3+GWX and SH3Commander to boot the game, but I also have SH3Weather. I reloaded the savegame made at sea, where the crash had happened, not the one that was made automatically after teleporting back to port. The game reloaded, but now the weather had changed and the wind was 7m/s (randomized by SH3Weather). Now I’m wondering if the weather is one factor in those 500 meter crashes. I guess it could be a million other things as well causing this crash, but maybe it is worth a try, next time you drop 500 meters at zero windspeed, to just try changing the weather and reloading.:06: |
Never had that problem.
Perhaps one of the mods is the culprit? |

Going back a few years now, I seem to remember that a particular weather mod occassionally caused the crash dive to death problem. I don't use any weather mods other than what is built into GWX and to date haven't experienced this issue.

SH3 Weather was the mod rumored to cause the crash dive of death. GWX does not cause it, it was happening long before GWX ever came out, and SH3 Weather is a old mod that has been around a long time.

I had it happen not too long ago. I think it happens when you add more mods than your machine can handle. I know that when I lightened my load a little it seemed to go away.

I'm running, i7 990x with 48 gb ram and 580GTX x 3 on an ASUS Rampage III BE mobo. While all this power isn't usable on all games they, all run smooth without ctd. |

Yea that happened to me every time I tried to approach the North Pole ice. Real freaky.

Hi, I have the crash bug it goes to 500m when I get close to the North Pole. The sub crushes and the mission ends. Anyone know what mod is causing this?

I found out the answer myself, its changing the .mis files to 1 windspeed. campaign and single player.

What a ride,almost better than sex :O:

How close were you to land ? That can cause a corupt save. :yep:
|
Well, when I crashed, I think the distance to land was at least 100 kilometers. However since ticking off the readonly attributes of all SH3 related files and save game files I have had zero save game crashes. I don't use SH3Weather anymore either.

Glad that you got it straightened out.
That sort of thing can do a number on the nerves. |

Yea, most definetely! I used to be a nervous wreck everytime I started to load a save. Now it's becoming more like: "I'm tired, I think I'll call it a day, save the game and continue tomorrow". No more: "I'm tired, but I can't save safely, so I better leave that convoy alone and sail back to home port, teleporting or DC 4096." :) |

This was the fix for the uncontrolled crash dive. If you care to, search for the original postings by theluckyone17, otherwise this is the essence in what he found.

I've found the "cause" of the CRASH DIVE problem. If "WindSpeed" is = to "0" It looks like the SH3 Game engine can't deal with 0 windspeed. Have tested this a number of times. As long as windspeed is 1 or greater it works fine. |
