Reinstalled SH4, should I get RFB??
 

As most here, I started with the orig. SH, then went all the way to SH5 and what a disappointment it was.. I got most (except part 1 and 2) on the release date, including part 4.. I was very much into GWX for part 3 at the time and put down SH4 almost right away, even before the new patch of 1.4.

That said, after part 5 for a few months and recently trying to enjoy it, I just couldn't, so I went back to what I know works, SH3 and GWX and all the nice mods..

well, recently I started reading "Silent Victory" and it makes me want to play the good guys again :)

I reinstalled part 4 just now and patched it with the new 1.4 patch..

Played for about 10 minutes and I am quite impressed.. I would like to add some mods and some major ones to start.. I was thinking the Real fleet boat mod??

I know where the download is, but there is not much info on it. I was wondering if you guys can help me with that or show me a link/site that explains it..

What about other mods? Any must haves ??

I strongly recommend getting the U Boat Mission add on (UBM for short). The reason is, it has patch 1.5 bundled into it, and all the supermods have been progressing off of that version. Any version of any supermod that still works for version 1.4 is way behind the times.

As to if you should get RFB? Why not? It's free isn't it? :O:

Get the U boat missions add on so you have patch 1.5, then try TMO and RFB, both are excellent mods.If you use RFB then RSRDC is a must because RFB uses stock traffic which , well sucks.

WOW! interesting.. Well, I am NOT interested AT all at playing the U-boats.. I have GWX for that, and really want to play just fleetboats..

Are you saying to still get the U-boat mod and then install the real fleet boat mod after? I am kinda confused here!

Wow, I am really confused, I am looking at the download page and not finding anything called UBM..

Are there any instructions online some where? For example, install SH4, patch to 1.4, get XXX mod to get 1.5 patch? then install RFB, and then again, get the RFB patch for 1.5 ???

Yes. The u-boats add-on changes more than just adding u-boats, and all the mods now are based off of it (which is SH4 version 1.5 with the u-boats stuff).

RFB+RSRDC, or TMO (with or without RSRDC)

Either is good.

The UBM is an expansion for SH4 made by Ubi. You have to buy it in order to get the 1.5 patch as well, no way around that. Here's one place you can get the UBM from and it helps out Subsim. http://www.subsim.com/store.html

You can get SH4 Gold, which comes fully patched to 1.5, for $11 used throught Amazon. Then all you need to do is download whichever mods you want to use.

UBM isn't that expensive. You'll be missing some action if you think it is though. (I love that movie)

ARRGG... LOL you sold me... So just because it has the U-boat add on, doesn't mean I have to play that obviously.. I am strictly doing this for the pacific :)

Whats the more popular mod for the pacific? TMO or RFB ??

Both have its fans. Both have different takes/definitions on realism. Pick whichever is right for you.

I think you can get SH4 gold or the UBM addon on steam, though id recommend ordering the disk. I have the impression steam + mods doesn't always work the best, but i could be mistaken.

So their really that equal? Nothing like GWX vs NYGM, because GWX is the much more popular mod....

Try both and see which you prefer more would be my advice. Or if you like them both no reason you couldn't have both.:up:

OK so I will try the TMO one I guess..

So I get the 1.5 patch, then install the TMO 2.7 mod..

What else after that? Is that pretty much it? I mean besides the little mods here and there that I will eventually try out.. Is the 2.7 TMO the latest?

To simplify...find and buy, the SH 4 Gold edition disc, I got mine for $6.00. This includes the v1.5 patch and the U-boat missions. You don't have to use the UBM if you don't want to, but the Gold edition is the best way to get the v1.5 patch. The disc appears to be much more reliable than the downloaded versions and you will have a hard copy of the game whenever you need to do a re-insatall. Play stock for a while, if you choose, to become familiar with it, then download the mod you wish to try. Just my 2 cents.
