GWX Sounds!

Ok so i got my GWX installed with SH3 Commander 3.1 plus the files Jimbuna has posted to make it compatible with GWX3.

Firstly graphically WOW completely new Sim, fantastic work on that.

Now i think i have sound issues. Torpedo hits. amd depth charges sound exactly the same as does the sound of some secondary explosions that happen half way though the sinking process.

The best description i have for the sound is a loud thud/bang with a small metallic clatter at the end. Is this correct? surely these sounds are different as i can't see a depth charge making this sound in real life.

Hi Nemisis and welcome aboard!
There are several sound mods available to change a lot of sounds. Search for sounds in SHIII mod section. Activate them via JSGME and choose the ones you like the best.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=134491 P Thomsen's sound mod is excellent and well worth a look;):up:Highly recommended:rock:Oh and welcome aboard!

Thanks guys downloading PT's mod now, still find it strange the mighty GWX team put same sounds in for Torp and depth charge explosions.

Much sacrifice was made by so many of the GW in the days leading up to Christmas to meet a deadline given a few months back.

A deadline had it been my sole decision that would have been extended.

It is regrettable that one or two oversights occurred.

Yet further proof that we are indeed human.

Do you know if it's going to be fixed?

It's a possibility, but one that may only happen if one of the team take it upon themselves to do.

It's an easy enough fix for any individual...simply take the file from an earlier GWX release or use the particular file from an already existing sound mod.

Hmm, I never noticed that the depth charge and torpedo impact sounds were identical. I guess I was either too busy crapping my drawers or celebrating my socks off to notice.

I was hopeing you'll say it's an easy fix. :D Now all I have to do is find those files. Obviously, depth-charge sound is in Depth charges exploding from submarine.wav.

But what's the torpedo impact sound? Is it P11_@ref_torp_great_explosion.wav? That file hasn't change from GWX2.1. :hmm:

Jimbuna 01-11-09 04:40 PM

There is actually a subtle difference in that the depth charge one has crockery rattling at the end.

I honestly don't think there really too similar.

meduza 01-11-09 05:05 PM

The problem is that you sometimes(?) hear the depth-charge sound (the one with rattling - which sounds good :D) when torpedo hits.

I don't know, maybe this has always been that way and it went unnoticed because the difference in sounds were less obvious.

I didn't realise that was actually the problem....I thought people were stating that both sounds were the same

I'll check this out tomorrow :hmm:

Nemisis 01-11-09 10:20 PM

The sounds in my install are the same. But since i have now had to reinstall GWX3 as there is a problem at the start of the war on mine where i keep getting the message over the radio Twice! every minute, that my base has changed to kiel it could well be i just had a bad install and the sound files got corrupted as well.

Certainly not making a complaint about it. after all when i first loaded up GWX3 i was stunned at all the changes made to the game graphically not to mention all the other hard work that has gone into making the game more realistic. Phenominal work from the GWX team.

I now have PT's sound mod as well so if my re-install works ok then the sounds are not going to be a problem.

Weiss Pinguin 01-11-09 10:25 PM

Hmm, I think the messages thing might not be caused by a bad install. Do you have any radio mods enabled? They might be conflicting with something if you do. :hmm:

Edit: Actually! I think it might be a bad career file. I think the base-change message has to do with that.

Nemisis 01-11-09 10:58 PM

No radio mods i only have GWX3 and PT's sound mod.

I am just about finished the re-install so will let you all know how it goes.:D

Can't comment on whether the depth charge explosion sound is the same as the torpedo impact explosion sound because luckily I haven't been on the receiving end of depth charges yet in GWX 3.0. However, I can say that the torpedo impact sound does have the rattling and so does subsequent explosions from a sinking ship.

I can't realy explain how and why, but it seems that something is wrong with GWX3 Depth charges exploding from submarine.wav. :hmm: What's interesting is that when you view the impact with external camera, the sound works as it's supposed to. The wrong sound can be heard only from inside the sub.

Even if I put this file into stock game, the depth charge sound is heard when torpedo hits. And when I put vanilla depthcharge sound into GWX, there was no problem - the torpedo impact sound was heard.

I replaced it with the GWX 2.1 file, and everything is back to normal.

This is getting rather Cofusing

Precisely which file have you ported over from GWX2.1 :hmm:

I guess it is a bit confusing. :D

I replaced the data\sound\Depth charges exploding from submarine.wav with the same file from GWX2.1.

Before that I did some testing, replacing that same file (from GWX3) with the stock one, and vice versa. As I said in my previous post, whenever that file (from GWX3) was in the sound folder, it was heard instead of the torpedo impact sound.
