no way anyone (even the biggest soab) would survive this

GoldenRivet 08-25-07 09:11 PM

you shot him in the head?

you should know his only weakness is to be shot in the balz!

Brag 08-25-07 09:11 PM

The joke is on you, my shallow water friend:

Kptlt Balz is alive, well, and sinking enemy shipping in the high seas like a good Kaleun.

I suggest you read your manual for U-Boat Komandants and quit the juvenal obsession with harbours and Balz.

Balz may be obnoxious and lots of people dislike him.

When he accepted the mean Portsmouth orders designed to kill him, he showed a good sence of sportsmanship, demonstrated great skill and a sence of humour. Your shoot him attitude reveals shallow mindness and lack of appreciation for the arts of war. Any idiot can commit suicide with guns blazing.

The guerilla warfare, which was the battle of the Atlantic requires cunning and choosing the battleground to the advantage of the U-boat. Balz does this well.

So please quit belittling yourself -- Leave Balz alone.

IIRC the red baron of WWI was shot down by a infantery bullet. :hmm:

Agreed. He is more like a Biggles of the kriegsemarine, 'cause he never died! (the author died before he could take him out of retirement.);)

Maybe Balz saw the mission for the trap it was (being a man of superior cunning) and sent his look-a-like on the mission. Obviously, if the REAL Balz HAD captained the boat in question in Portsmouth harbour, he would not have made such a schoolboy error in his interpretation of orders, nor resisted the temptation to destroy all the ships present.

My thinking is that, if Saddam Hussain was clever enough to hire a look-a-like, as was Fidel Castro (neither of which could hope to live up to Balz's intellect and cunning) surely Balz would have a couple of stand-bys ready to go and would have seen this whole Portsmouth escapade for what it was long ago.:hmm:

Balz is probably sitting on a beach somewhere right now in the best James Bond tradition, smirking at our confusion... ;)

Brag 08-26-07 08:42 AM

Ummm. Balz been rather quiet, unusual for a man with his ego. Speaking of egos, without it, he would be just another gray Kaleun performing his duty. Balz is annoying, but one can't deny that he is also colourful.

Damn I was only going to send him back to finish the job he was ment to do...

Anyway... Can we have a Balz without an ego?? Maybe a real U boat captian who showes us the horrors and and losses (and sucesses) of war, rather then a big mouthed gasbag...

I know which one I'd prefer.....

It'z me Again!!

Kptlt. J.S. Balz complaint to BDU

6 --8 November 1940 AM sector.

I was in the middle of conducting choir practice with my crew ( The Over the Waves Balz hoochie-woochie), when we received information of a convoy not too far.

Even though the convoy changed course, I had brilliantly estimated its intentions and postioned U-53 for an attack. :smug:

We went in and I did my famous one-two torpedoe attack (one from rear tube, a few seconds later one front tube).

Bababoom, one modern tanker and one large freighter are history as I zip deep doing Brag's wiggle-waggle, improved by me. :smug:

Escorts put on a Wasserbomben show a thousand meters from our location.

I tally our tonnage, 46,000 tons and 11 torpedoes left. This has the makings of a record breaking patrol. :smug:

Another convoy coming our way, I have to cancel choir practice. The sea state is attrocious.

Again, I cleverly positon the boat. Einz loss! The bloody eel explodes the moment it is armed. I send a second eel for a large tanker 600 meters away. Same thing.

My comment: BDU is a bunch of jealous jerks giving me faulty torpedoes, undermining the reputation of the great Balz:damn:
