Double clicking on each file doesn't do anything, only the first one clicked is the active file.

Thanks.

CW:arrgh!:

To open a second, separate file, use the open instance of S3D, click on the usual "File - Open", and navigate to the folder of the 2nd object. It should open in a new window, and leave the first instance open also. If you have the dat of say the Shokaku open, you can use the S3D's links in the upper right to open the sim, dsd, etc. files. Then use the File-Open and open a 2nd ship, and use the same buttons on that particular ship's dat file instance in S3D in the upper right, just like the Shokakus's you did previously, and have all files of both ships open. Do a 3rd, do a 4th... you will eventually run out of computer, of course...

Other than that, I can't help you because my technical skills are close to 0.

updating Japlance's Directx9 link because the one he referenced was broken.

this additional installation, plus PB's Properties changes (above) will fix the problem of S3d running in win10/11.

S3D manual

Hi, everybody.
Does anybody have a copy of the s3d editor manual? I' want to create additional animations and modification to the interior.:Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:

propbeanie 03-20-24 07:28 AM

I do not remember a "manual" per se, but skwasjer did do some "tutorials", some of which are still alive in his signature. You can also "search" for him on YouTube and possibly find some others. Jeff-Groves is into animation also, and has a couple of threads here that might be useful. Use an external search engine and use "site:subsim.com/radioroom Jeff-Groves animation" for your search term, and see if that doesn't find some of his posts. :salute:

Thank you

Thank you for the informations.

There's SH3 animations and SH4 animations.
SH3 is easiest to create and S3D can handle them in KeyFrame or MeshAnimations.

Here's the important stuff about SH4 animations.
https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=207142

And SH3 animation stuff.

It will list as Madox58. But that was actually me.

Hello, does anyone remember the key combo in Silent 3d Editor to cut/copy a parent node AND its child nodes/objects? I know you can do this; the key combo was something like "CTRL + SHIFT + C".

I don't mean the cut and paste tools that only cut/paste one node at a time.

Rather, for example, cutting and pasting a 3d object, label, and sub-object all at once.

being able to cut/paste multiple chunks/objects was such a huge time saver, and it doesn't seem to be working right now! Very annoying.:/\\!!

From the Change Log.

A 'Copy with children' option is supported by invoking CTRL + SHIFT + C. When you use regular paste, the chunk that was copied including it's children will be pasted. Note: the option is only accessible through this shortcut function, default copy behavior remains selected chunk only.

A 'Cut with children' option is supported by invoking CTRL + SHIFT + X. When you use regular paste, the chunk that was cut including it's children will be pasted. Note: the option is only accessible through this shortcut function, default cut behavior remains selected chunk only.

Note that You use the Paste to plant it in a Dat file! And Yes I just tested and it works fine.

i had this problem too, if you're on Win11 make sure to set app compatibility to Win7

YOU GUYS ARE LIFESAVERS! I tried it and all is well. I had been pressing "CTRL + C" and "CTRL + Z" with no results.

Jeff and vickers03, if you ever make it to the Pacific NW, you aren't going to be buying your own drinks!! :salute:

That's why I love this community.

When in S3D, click help, then Change Log, to see other documented things like that. Not much there but it answered Your question.
:D

Doubt I'll make it out your way but I accept checks!
:har:

iambecomelife 11-26-24 01:26 AM

OK guess I spoke too soon! :/\\!!

This thing is acting up again - it stopped working after I posted. I am pressing CTRL+SHIFT+C and changed app compatibility to Windows 7 Not sure what's going on.

iambecomelife 11-26-24 09:50 AM

Woohoo! I got it!!:Kaleun_Cheers::Kaleun_Cheers::

IMPORTANT: If you have an ATI graphics card, AMD Pro software stops you from being able to use CONTROL+SHIFT+[KEY] combos. I disabled the hotkey assignments in AMD Pro software, and now I'm in business!

I suspect Jeff Groves and vickers either have Nvidia graphics cards, or do not use AMD Pro for ATI cards - that's why it was working for them.

The brief period on 11/23/2024 when it worked for me? Coincided with when AMD Pro happened to crash. It all makes sense.

If skwasjer ever comes back we should tell him.

Did you make sure the entire model is textured? If even one polygon is untextured, the import via Silent 3ditor will not work.

Also, how many polygons is the model? Silent 3ditor will usually give error messages when you try to import items of more than 35,000 - 40,000 polygons. For that reason, I usually separate the hull and superstructure of my ships as different objects.
