Also, it's being compared to A2 with all the DLC. Arrowhead as an expansion, BAF, PMC and ACR adding even more stuff.

Compare it to base A2 and it's about the same.

Iirc there's a I44 port that has been done already.

Ah, good, good. How good are the ports?

TarJak 03-27-14 04:14 PM

Mostly excellent. There's a few buggy betas around but in the whole the map ports work fine and the vehicles are a mixed bunch. Some excellent some buggy as buggery. If you get playwithsix you can easily manage mods and mod sets for compatability

I don't think the unit list is finished yet, I believe a 'future' A-10 was in the works last I saw, it looks like an F-22 got very drunk and ended up in bed with a hawg, it's...well, its mother must love it, and that's the most important thing...

I do like the way that equipment is set up in A3, and the physics engine is lovely...but the time period leaves me cold, whilst I'll admit the drones are a lot of fun (especially when you realise that you can actually kill someone by kamikazing into their head with one :haha:) the 'tanks' and other vehicles...they're not that brilliant. Fantastically modelled, but...whilst I know what an M1A2 Abrams is, what it looks like, what it should be able to do, I know nothing about whatever armoured vehicle myself and Raptor took for a spin in our last game of A3 was, except for the fact that the future must have very expensive ammunition because it had less rounds than the average RARDEN magazine. :O:
However, the beautiful part of Arma has always been the user base, so I'm waiting and hoping that people will make beautiful real world vehicles to use, there's already some lovely aircraft for A3, and A1 and A2 vehicles have been ported over to A3, but really it's a stop-gap solution.

I mean, I guess in time I could get used to it, but until then it makes battlefield ID a bit difficult, in A2 it was a case of "T-72 front", in A3 it's "Erm, armoured thing, front." :haha:

Exactly, thats the part I don't like, I am not really familiar with the units. I mean the Comanche and the Ghosthawk yeah, as well as the littlebird thats in there but besides that.. not really, I am a bit lost on units. I liked tht about Arma 2, I knew the units, and it was nice.

Basically, right now I think of A3 as a canvas for future real world and Cold War mods to be used on. :yep:

This is indeed true, I thought about that right before I read your post. Hopefully more come out.

Check here for Vehicle mods available for A3. As I said before, not all of them are fantastic although most a good enough and fully functioning.

http://play.withsix.com/arma-3/mods/category/vehicles There's 2 pages but the list includes some mod packs with vehicle mods in them so they may not be obvious. I can vouch the the US Choppers mod which adds the Huey, Chinnook, Blackhawk, Cobra, Apache and Sea Sprite imported from A2. They all work pretty well though the Chinook has a bug with the co-pilot seat which can be worked around by getting in the back.

laser designator?

Any input would be appreciated.

I have been trying to find out how to use a laser designator. Got one, pointed it, clicked both mouse buttons...nuttin. Clicked "L" as indicated in Arma2manual...nuttin. Nothing in Arma3 manual.

Grrrr...

Did you make sure it had the battery? I don't know if one was needed in Arma 2 but it is in Arma 3. If the battery for it (know as designator battery ofc) isn't in you inventory then you've got decent pair of binoculars.

raymond6751 05-03-14 08:03 PM

Ah Hah!

A battery! Who would have thought! Again, who would have thought that my character created by the game using the standard F1 key would not have a battery for the standard kit?

That's like getting your rifle but no ammo!

Hmmm :/\\!!
