Sadly, no. I just impotently say things to my computer with nobody around to hear.

I think I still have a download of SH3 Speech on my backup drive. I wanted to try it, but never got around to it. There was a new thread recently in the game forum about voice commands, made me think about giving it a try again. I'd even printed out the manual of commands that were (I think) already "loaded" into it, you just had to do some stuff to train the voice recognition software... I think I didn't have any voice recog software and wasn't sure I wanted to fool with it at the time.

IIRC, it was set up to recognize either German or English. And as much as I liked the idea of giving commands in German, I think it was the possibility of yelling things like "put us on the roof, Chief" that appealed to me most. :D

Wha....? Why would you ever want to give commands in English when German sounds so much more awesome. Why say "put us on the roof, Chief", when you could say "Stellen die uns aus dem dach, chef"? That's probably not a good translation, and in fact it probably means something completely different, but it still sounds awesome.

For my money, German is the best possible language for wargames. Virtually the entire language sounds like a declaration of war. I can see using English for 18th-century sea battles if done with the proper accent, but I wouldn't want it on a submarine.

Well obviously she'd have to be skilled enough in the use of a bucket of water to not splash the sensitive electronics. Or she could do it while I'm plotting things on the chart-table (it's not really a chart table, just a separate desk I use for the maths when playing SH3). Also, she would need to be able to make good sammiches.

I don't know, I just like saying "Put us on the roof, chief" and where else am I gonna get to say it?

OTOH just yelling "ANBLAAAAASEN" is sort of equally cool.

"Countermeasures station...on my mark...three...two...one...release countermeasures...Emergency blow! Full Rise fairwater planes..."

Hell yeah, not to mention the ever-popular "ALAAAAAAARM!"

I'm still not feeling "put us on the roof, chief", but hey, your boat, your rules.

And if there's anyone at Subsim who knows what "liquids" would do to a computer, somehow, we knew it'd be Dowly. :D

I don't know, maybe somebody said it in The Hunt For Red October. That was my first sub movie IIRC. I think I like it because it's a command given in "sub lingo" which just sounds cool, as opposed to yelling "Emergency surface!" or whatever the "official" command would be.

:yeah:

Probably the only sub movie other than DB that I've watched all the way through in a single sitting more than once. I figured that had to be it. :D

Red October! I love that movie. The music is excellent too. There's something about that Russian choir thing that really strikes a chord with me. In fact, I never leave port without that soundtrack on my gramophone :)
