10:56PM EST October 7. 2012 - On Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers became the first team in NFL history to have more than 300 yards rushing and passing in the same game.
Alex Smith passed for 303 yards and a combination of Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and others ran for 311 more in the Niners' 45-3 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
If "first time in NFL history" didn't provide the proper perspective, maybe these five stats will help:
• No team rushed for more than 300 yards in a single game last season. Only two teams did it in 2010. In the past two decades, the team 300-yard rushing barrier has been surpassed 26 times.
• San Francisco's 621 yards is tied for the 15th-highest total in league history. The 1951 Los Angeles Rams have the record with a 722-yard game against the New York Yanks. The 49ers total is the fourth highest in the past 30 years.
• Prior to Sunday, Alex Smith had thrown for over 300 yards in a game just twice in his career. It took him until his 38th start to accomplish the feat.
• Last week agains the New England Patriots, the Bills became the second team in NFL history to allow a 300-yard passer, two 100-yard receivers and two 100-yard rushers. The team is the first since that infamous early-1950s New York Yanks defense to allow more than 550 yards in back-to-back games.
• The last time a team had more than 275 yards passing and rushing in the same game was in 1988 when the Washington Redskins threw for 322 and rushed for 280 in Super Bowl XXII.
So the scrutiny last year was, that the 49ers had a weak offense. I think that din can die down now.:smug:

Respect the Red and Gold or the kid gets it!

Thanks. Had a busy summer at home and work. Hope all is well with
you :yep:

Truth is I would rather see them struggle like they are then repeat what they did last year and
make an early exit out of the playoffs. Though if they don't get their act together soon they
won't have to worry about the playoffs.

Our guys did well this weekend. Our offense is shaping up to be pretty awesome this year.

geetrue 10-08-12 07:22 PM

The Chargers were doing better under the old referee system lol

49ers vs Giants in 12-14 hours.

This will include Brandon Jacobs, and Mario Manningham (the one who won the superbowl for the Giants) in opposing uniforms.

This game is huge to Niner fans, as we get to test out our highly upgraded offense. Maybe Kyle Williams can find redemption for those 2 fumbles in the NFC championship game.

Eli ate massive dirt last game, but the Niners lost because of our lacking offense. This year that is not a problem.

I HATE the Giants.
No.

I hate their fans. They are 10 times as snotty as Yankee fans, with twice the arrogance.

They will pay for the complacency they exhibit.

The Texan-Cheezhead game is gunna be a great one!

nikimcbee 10-14-12 03:56 PM

I loved the pass off the raiders helmet:har:, for the completion. That's exactly how the play is designed.

eddie 10-14-12 06:07 PM

Looks like the Gmen are taking it to the 49ers.

Sorry Soops. 49ers looked awful today.

Gargamel 10-14-12 09:39 PM

Well, the browns avoided history today.

August 10-14-12 09:52 PM

Our guys came up short today. The Seahawks were very tough.

Amazingly, the Panthers found a way not to lose this week.

Sadly, experts do not expect this phenomenon to become a trend. :/\\!!

Talk about a Sunday night shellacking!

ReallyDedPoet 10-15-12 07:29 AM

Nice to see the Pack get a big win. Really liked what they did to stop the run, totally changed the face of the game. Take away their run game and the Texans can look pedestrian.

soopaman2 10-15-12 11:02 PM

My niners got destroyed...

I took away a good thing from this game.

Colin Kaepernick can not only run, but he throws like Roger Clemens.

He can go long, and he can throw the bullets.

I love me some Alex Smith, but Kaepernick is slowly, if not surely earning a spot here.

I do not want some Jets like qb controversy, and niether does Harbaugh. But the kid Colin is showing his stuff, and as a fan, I like!

On a side note, even if SF lost, they are not done, and could most likely beat your team.:D

Niner's D screwed my Fantasy score this week.:/\\!!

They came out flat as a pancake second half. Could be time for changes in San Diego....
