I've done careers (SH3commander careers that is) with IXCs, IXD2's, VIIBs, and VIICs.

My only problem with the big boats is the Atlantic crossing or the long trip to the South Atlantic. I love the torp. loadout and flak. Hate the dive time. And damn, again, those long trips can be boring as hell. Though every now and then I long for the far off places and do a IXD2 career. Then, about half way through it (I mean half way before I get sunk), I wish I hadn't--to much open ocean :D.

I guess I rather get into the dirty business of sinking ships as soon as possible. Hell, maybe I'll try another drumbeat career just to make sure ;).

I have to say, my last couple of careers have been IIVCs and I'm learning to love these boats a bunch--really love them in 43' and 44'.

I must say since i upgraded to the type IXC i havnt realy liked it at all i prefer my type VIIB U-55 it had all the mod cons on it and could hit 20 knots on the surface if pushed, my crew was well worked trained and ran like a well oiled machine and now i got to partly start over.

All of my crew have some form of medals now all have had promotions and all my officers have 3 skills and petty officers have a skill.

But sadly ive lost 6 crew in total since 1939 5 of the died when aircraft hit the flak gun (seprate times) then i lost my top officer he was on the bridge and i surfaced very close to a tanker that was breaking up he must have been hit by shrapnel he died.

A patrol in an type 9 lasts for days. I mean, ill start a patrol, and ill play that same patrol for probably the next 4 or 5 days before i go back to port. So one patrol to me, is like 1 week's afterwork game time.

As for the transatlantic crossing, my solution has been thus:

Mydocuments/sh3/data/cfg/main.cfg

Quote:

[TIME COMPRESSION]
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=1024
CriticalDamage=1
CrewEfficiency=1
AirEnemyDetected=-1
SoundEffects=2
CharacterAnim=4
EnemyDetected=1
RadioReport=1
Particles=8
PrayState=16
HunterState=32
3DRender=32
Maximum=2048
With those settigns, once i clear biscay bay, and mabe past the azores, i just step up the time compression, turn up the speaker volume so i can hear the watch crew, and go watch CSI or something. If an aircraft is spotted, the game will automatically pause for me, so when i get back to the keyboard i can deal with the situation. Now all that said, crossing the atlantic at 2048 time compression takes like 20 minutes i beleive. Only have to do it twice per patrol, rest of the time is spent lurking in the caribean or soemthing :P

While im still training myself the next war will be done in real time ie if it is a 3 month patrol it will take 3 months o that makes it so much harder.

I just couldn't do that. Im not THAT patient, and the real life cost of keeping a machine running 24/7 for months at a time isnt very appealing. Not to mention if you try and get up out of bed everytime you hear a report from your crew late at night. Im not disturbing my sleep over a game. No offense matey, but 1X TC gameplaying is admiral in the dedication involved, but thats just nuts!

No what i mean is turn the PC off at night and run time compresion in the morning just play it to real timeish like i normaly true.

You a bloody hardcore submariner player:D Jesus you not even 6months into SH3 and already your looking at playing it in realtime 1x. I tried this and lasted 2weeks, if my other PC could run SH3 well, then i would be playing it all the time this way and just leave it running, but i have other games i wanna play so i really cannot do this unless i save and go out, but then it would take along time to reach my objective grid.

Well i suppose 100% is not 100% unless you play the game in 1x.:)

Tijn 11-07-06 02:18 PM

:o :o :o Jezus!! Although i have respect for the way you play it's to much for me. I trying to get to the end of the war before 2011.:lol:
