Indeed, the Nazis took heavily from history their emphasis on nationalist pride. Plus the world was different back then. Ethnic lines really did divide people. And certainly whether you see this film as an interpretation of Spartan culture at the time (not my take) or as a representation of the exaggerated style of story telling inherent in Classical times (my take), making absurd comparisons to Naziism and the Jews and the like is just trying to create an issue where there is none.

I think the Nazis and other propagandists chose the elements they liked and conviniently forgot those that could cause trouble for their ideas. In any case I will not say anything more as this dicussion needs a thread of it's own ;) :D

You've got that bloody right. And I don't know if I'd want to be involved in that one.

It was what it was ment to be, entertaiment. If you don't look at history, it was a decent movie, it kept me firm on the seat.

Actually this is really interesting. I had the same opinion when I saw the movie. It looked to me like a Nazi-Propaganda one.

1933 this style was politic, today I would say: Kitsch

I think that's fair to say. Isn't the entire comic book style based on kitsch aesthetics? :hmm:

Its a science fiction/fantasy type-movie. It has excellent special CGI graphics.

Don't think that its in any way respectable in any intellectual sense compared to the recent Hollywood production of the Illiad. I'm certain that people that like "300" will also like "Eragon"

I will say this: you will learn more by watching Hollywoods recent "Illyiad" production, rather than 300. That's because the former is an adaptation of the original literary work. If you know one or the other, then you'll go "Hmmmmm" by reading the other; the same is not true watching "300".

I believe that either is a "primer" for the latter, and the two in conjunction are synergistic; "300" has nothing but shock value and excellent bloody-CGI going for it.
