Try a slighty different angle approach Gracie
Line up as if you are going to fire on the middle merchant but then alter the boats heading so you aim for the left or right one
Fire your fish
Move the boat to aim at the centre one and fire then move on to the next
You AOB doesnt have to be exactly 90 degrees
Anywhere from 70 - 110 should be ok to use impacts
Magnetics of course you can fire at any angle

Have you patched your game to version 1.4b?
If so, are you playing without any mods?

Paaj, I have the full Monty! 1.4b and Grey Wolves Expansion - and coo, doesn't it make a difference! My 'birds in the rigging' was when I was running the game out of the box. Now everything is...wonderful!

danlisa, I found out about the (Q)uick key in the sticky, and yes, it certainly helps things along. I also read that it is ok to set the torpedo speed to 'fast' but I guess I can only do that if I find a solution manually as it does not stay set when I try it. I am a LONG way from attempting manual solutions. Still, I had fun tonight. The reason I got SH3 was because I recalled the tingle I got from playing either Silent Hunter or was it 'Run Silent Run Deep'? on the Amiga ( and all on 1 meg!) so many moons ago, and I wanted to see if SH3 could give me that same thrill, waiting to see if the boat passing overhead was going to nobble you, wow, makes you hold your breath in. Well yes, it can indeed, and even better when you get good at it I expect. I enjoyed playing cat and mouse with the escort tonight, even if I was the mouse. great fun trying to outwit the other chap :)

When the depthcharges start to be dropped all around you.
And if you get some hull damage and flooding so your sub sinks and you know you have over 1000 meter under keel. :D That is thrilling and guess what?

There is no PANIC button in this game :D So be fast and calm and pray that you manage to repair in time.

if u continue this game i promise you that you will have many of thos "WOW" and heartpumping moments :)
