My top 15 (in descending order)
1. Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe 2. Silent Hunter III 3. Red Baron 3d (heavily modded) 4. Aces of the Deep 5. Their Finest Hour 6. Cutthroats: Terror on the High Seas 7. Pirates of the Caribbean (heavily modded) 8. Freelancer (heavily modded) 9. Falcon 3.0 ("Major Iambecomelife was courtmartialed for aiding and abetting the enemy...") Dang - right after I beat the Red Baron's kill count :damn: . 10. Resident Evil 3 11. Silent Hill 2 12. Return to Castle Wolfenstein 13. Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory (the only MP game I play) 14. Morrowind ("You are a fool to walk around like that :rotfl: ") 15. Resident Evil 2 The IL2 series almost makes it but loses out because of mediocre immersion & campaign play. SH2 loses out because it was relatively poor out of the box. I think SH3 is the best modern game both default and with mods. RB3d is a close second with the "Full Canvas Jacket" mod. If only I could get some decent FPS with it... |
:) SH3 is number 1, Medal of Honor is number 2, Call of Duty is number 3

I don't think anyone listed
-Half-life 2 (It's very good!) and several others already mentioned -Starcraft -Civ III -Warcraft II and III -Halo |
I never played Half-life, but the same folks put out Counter-Strike. I loved that one, but can't play it anymore. That Steam business looks too suspect for me.

Playing now.
1. SHIII (Tons of time spent playing these two. Left new games laying in the box untouched to continue playing these.) 2. X2 The Threat 3. DW 4.IL2 and IL2Forgotten Battles 5.Pacific Fighters Oldies but favs in order XBTF SH II CFS 2 Janes 688i M1A2 by IM Janes Sub Command CFS1 Janes F-15 Steel Beasts Strike Fighters Janes F/A 18 Gunship Indy Wars I bought Myst but for the life of me I can't see how people enjoy this game. Would rather watch paint dry. |
Trav: Thanks for the link! I'll give it a shot.....not many of these games need a whole lot of resources, but it's worth a try.
iambecomelife: "Their Finest Hour".....was that the LucasArts Battle of Britain game???? If it is, my old college roommate and I played that game non-stop for about 12 hours one time.... Hard to believe no one else is mentioning GNBNA. That may have been the first game I ever played with a dynamic campaign. That was my biggest disappointment with Fighting Steel. Well, that and the whopping 4 ship convoys.... I'm also suprised to see so many people mentioning B17 2. I thought I was the ONLY one who played that game!!!! |
Unreal 1
Return to NaPali SH1 Jet Fighter III DID ADF IL2 Forgoten Battles AEP Flanker 2.0/2.5 |
Aces of the Deep
PcFĂștbol (Spanish football manager game) Maniac Mansion Super EF2000 Civilization 2 Steel Panthers: World at War Drakheen |
SH3 ( OF COURSE )
Hidden & Dangerous 2 + its exspansion pack "Sabre Squadron" FarCry MOHA, Spearhead and Breakthrough. Call of Duty and its expansion pack "United Offensive". And of course the Untouchable "Return to Castle Wolfenstein". |
So many already mentioned, but mine are
Doom 1 X-Com series Falcon series Master of Orion 1 Jagged Alliance 2 GTR FIA Diablo 1 (still don't like D2's graphics) Rome Total War European Air War Longbow 2 Civ 2 Baldur's Gate series And probably many others, far too many to mention |
I still play the X-com series, and Medieval(and Rome) Total War.
I've noticed that the DosBox program has some problems with WinXp(mostly graphics) and some games, so I've got a slower Win98 machine for those games like X-com, Daggerfall, Elite, etc.... I played Halflife2 all the way thru, enjoyed it, then removed it. Takes too much space, and just doesn't have the same replay value as open ended games. same with Doom3. I'll play them again, will never sell them, but they just don't rate the disk space they use. Lately, I've gotten back into Muds....I spend a lot of time at Discworld. |
Wow, how could I forget Medieval Total War. That is a great game.
Not to mention the oldies but goody X-COM. I found a game which is basically a rip off of X-COM called UFO Aftermath. I had to buy it to get my X-COM fix since I've long lost any copies of the original. It was worth the 30 bucks. :) |
