They are saying that the fact that Ubisoft has dropped the intention to use DRM, in favor of Steam, for a title [RUSE] gives hope that it may be retracted for other titles, including SH5.

Privateer said that this was possible due to the fact that the source code likely did not have the DRM included.

Jim reminded everyone that Steam can be used in offline mode.

Danlisa posted to remind us that he plays console games.

Steve then called Steam a bunch of fuddy-duddies.:O:

Wow, great job summing up the thread. I wish you'd do that for a few others around hear I don't seem to follow... :)

Really? That sucks! :(

R.U.S.E. is developed by Eugene Systems, a French company which not belongs to Ubisoft. They use Ubisoft only as publisher like they use Atari as publisher for their former games.

Ubisoft said yesterday in an interview for the German Gaming magazine PCGames that R.U.S.E is an exception, because the multiplayer part is based on the Steamworks API. For further own Ubisoft developments, the majority of the upcoming games will continue to use the Ubi-launcher DRM system.

With minimal effort on Ubisoft's part, they could offer a 'No DRM' downloadable version of the game. I think they would see more additional sales than they think. :)

A DVD version!:yep: one of the reasons that a lot of people including myself don't have the game is due to poor or no internet connection!

Hey guys... don't be too optimistic.

If Ubi had that "market sense" that you are dreaming here... they would not cause this disaster in a first place...

I fear even bigger disaster... they might well screw-up pending SoW:BoB if Oleg's diplomatic skills do not prevail ...
:dead:

Yup, after getting burned by UBI with the Pacific Fighters box art fiasco and the resulting threat of a lawsuit and having to pay fines I think he saw where UBI was coming from and what might be better for him and his company's future. :)

Well... if anybody on this planet would be more attracted to this title by Ubi... rather than Oleg's brand - such a "creature" does not deserve to take off with SoW project !

If only Romanian guys have changed the title of SH5 project - avoiding Ubi "smartness" with a brand rights... and have released this title 12 months later as finished offline sub-sim... they would become a market brand themselves... just as Oleg did!
