Alcohol was provided to Kriegsmarine warships of all types and sizes. All vessels had bar cabinets for officers, and on major surface warships sailors were provided with an amount of beer and allowed to drink when off duty quite freely as long as they did not get drunk - unless green light had been shown by the Captain. On minor warships use of alcohol among the sailors was mostly limited to special occasions.
