It's like posting "Which is better: IL2 or CFS3" in the CFS3 forums, LOL!

Theres still hotbuttons issues to be fixed, but by and large the game is emensly more enjoyable now. Ive pretty much worked my ass off since patch 1.3 appeared and forced me out of retirement, and am trying my best to wind my activies down now.

As for progress, heres a few examples:

As for myself ive been doing my best to deliever a "supermod" that seems to be a Subsim tradition, sans compedative drama.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=115258

Current version on that is 1.5. Ive got a few nice things in that version, but Version 1.6 looks to be to be my last hoorah for SH modding. After that i've got to move on to other things in life. At any rate i hope that someday folks come back and check out SH4 and the pacific. Maybe not today or tommrrow, but someday. Historically, It's a story worth being told. What the pacific lacks in scale (as compared to the atlantic) , it more then makes up for in intensity of action. In some actions that occured in that theater, truth is stranger the fiction.

I agree with what you are saying, but as your links demonstrate, SH4 is still missing modellers - apart from some average SH3 ship and plane conversions, I haven't seen anything new being built for SH4, which after six months does concern me.

I certainly hope that for longer term "growth" some skilled modellers jump onto SH4, for it's currently an area that I'd argue is certainly not equal to where SH3 was after six months. Hopefully there's some people who are just working away "behind the scenes" and will surface to surprise us shortly.

BTW, I thought TM1.4 was your last "hurrah"? Now it's 1.6? :p Just wait until patch 1.4 is released (which looks likely based on some things mentioned by the devs in the SH4 forums), you'll be back, LOL!

My problem is i can't force myself to stop. If theres a bug, or something i misadusted, it bugs me because *I* did it. I have to go back and fix it because it "has my name on it". Call it an old world sense of craftsmanship if you want, I dunno That and theres always, "one more thing" id like to fix or do. It never ends.

But ive come to a conclusion.
- Someone will always find something wrong with what i did, or with the game
- someone will always not like some of my design decisions
- I will never find or fix all bugs, regardless of source.
- I will never please everyone
- I will always want to fix one more thing.
- If i keep this up, i will never play the game at all.

Im not falling into that trap. After 1.6, regardless of what people say, im calling it quits. I'm tired of my inbox filling up, and im tired of being "tech support". Theres always "one more thing", and if i keep allowing myself to be slave to that, i will never enjoy myself.

edit:
RE modellers.
Truthfully i think what ships exist in stock are adequate in variety. With how long patrols can go in SH4 (seeings how 99% of all boats are long range), i have a great worry about load times. I fear A glut of new models would only serve to change what is a minor annoyance, into a problem with long loading times.

Aces of The deep was the best subsim untill SH3 came along, SH2 was terrible.

I hadn't much fun with it either :/. Although I had been heavily looking forward to it.

SH4 is a big mess though. At least if considering what it could have been.
I mean they had the perfect basis to create an outstanding game.
- SH3 as a great game, even in the stock version with it's many little flaws here and there.
- And a large and responsive community which had already worked out most of the things SH3 was lacking in.

And then they release SH4 and the modders have to do everything all over again. This is sometwhat stupid.
But I would think that this is mostly UBI's fault because they tried to get the release date as soon as possible. Of course they did, they have to as any other publisher too. But they perhaps should have given the developers team a few month more time in this case.

So the choice of this poll is still clearly SH3, especially with GWX :)

Stock SH4 1.3 is superior to Stock SH3 1.4b, now SH4 1.3 vs. GWX is a different story, but it is getting there.

Just take a look in the archives at early SH3 stuff, it is not much different than current SH4 discussions. That game like early SH4 had its issues, plus folks to an extent were expecting a similar experience with SH4, it is a differrent theatre, game, so it is a different experience.

SH3 with GWX is the only way to go. If SH3 didn't have GWX, I probably would have chosen CAOD. I played that game for a long time. The atmoshpere was just about perfect and I loved the main theme music.

if all these mods were mixed in to 1 big supermod like the GWX team do's then i will play SHIV again.
if not then SHIV stays on "the pile"

I can play SH4... and have tried. I have a far better than average computer, but it still breaks my heart to have to turn so much nice stuff down, or off, to make it 'fun'...

SH3 keeps roaring along. My computer loves it... I guess I do too...
