IXB saves my life than having a VII

Aight, lets see..

Pro's:

* more torps means more tonnages
* better hull than VII, specialy with depthcharges...
* more crew = more fun lmao...
* Dual Flak means DUCKHUNTING SEASON IS OPEN :P
Cons:

* Slow, takes longer to dive...
* Lorient, a pain in the ass habor to get out, i thought i was fixed with GW, but i am wrong...

If you have no intention of going on long range patrols, then it's best you dont use an IX boat anyway. A type IX uboat is best suited for long range patrols to distant area's. Its fueled, and equiped for long, solitary patrols and is ill suited for other uses. Thats not to say you cant attack convoys with it.. on the contrary, you can do ALOT more damage to a convoy, but a type IX uboat isnt for everyone.

edit: BTW this IX uboat video by stabiz is awesome. This to me, is what it's all about! Bringing the war to the enemies back yard in those far off distant lands.

he fact that you have the ability to hunt in the North and South American coast and the Tanker-infested Caribbean is too tempting for me not to own one
Donīt try to tempt me :damn:

I risk being called a pussy, but the IX is not my type of U-Boot:arrgh!:. I love my smaller but more agile VII. I know that it has fewer torpedoes and can't travel as long as a type IX but it dives really fast and it's quick to react (which has saved my virtual butt a lot of times;):smug:) You go hunting some tankers while I take care of those nasty escorts with my Falke torpedos.:p

Well I completely understand why someone would want to keep the VII. I might even switch back to it towards the end of the war. And from what I hear, we get some action in the harbors then, so we'll probably see more of it with the VII since you'll have to return to port more often. :know:

Lorient must have been fixed, because it is quite easy to leave in the GW Mod..

I am loving my IXB, though, it seems i suck at attacking Convoys... lol... so I just try and get a bead on the juiciest target I can... then again. most of my convoy action is in bad weather.. :damn:

Though, my first run through Freetown was sweet.. ;) got out with a Liner, Med Tanker, and a Medium Cargo.

You might have trouble with SH4 when she comes out as USA Submarines weren't small. The Gato, Tench class were big boats compared to the VII's.

Reminds me to ask anyone still play Silent Hunter 2 with the Pacific Aces Mod? Just loaded this up on the slower PC for a bit of US v Jap gameplay and this mod still rocks.

Infact if i remember correctly, a Gato is acutally a tinsy bit larger then an IXD2.

Just a word of warning for type VII skippers. Getting your boat under in less than 60 seconds was considered a decent time in US Fleet Boats. (If they model the dive time correctly.)

On the other hand, lookouts could see further on US boats than on U-Boats...since they were higher up. Plus they had decent anti-air radar.(which again was located higher off the water than the ones on U-Boats) so you should have warning of air attacks sooner than you would on a U-Boat.

Course it all depends on how it will all be modeled in game.

Sure, US subs were relatively large and this can be quite troublesome in shallow waters, but one has to keep in mind that they were technological far more advanced than the Japanese. They had radar as early as '42 if I recall it correctly. That should compensate the fact that these boats were huge ( I hope)

Allright allready. We all likeour boat for diffrent reasons. Now can we shut up?

Nope, this is the only subject where differing opinions rarely turn into a blood fest. Enjoy it!
