Bit of help please

Hi Shipmates, i'm on my 4th Patrol sailing from St Nazaire into the middle of the Atlantic, sank a few ships, completed my patrol grid then asked to proceed into the Med by the BDU and patrol off Greece.

Followed my orders and sailed from BE25 through the Gib Straights to my patrol grid and then back into the Atlantic as BDU requested i patrol CG86.

At no time since leaving my origional patrol did i come across any other surface vessels or aircraft, its all gone eerily quiet and i think there may be a problem, currently sat in BE14 patrolling 14/5/41

Issue with flotilla transfers

Hey!

Great mod - have just started trying it out.

However, I chose the training flotilla at the war start, and after completing the 2nd training mission, it says I should transfer to a battle flotilla, but when I go to hit the transfer button, it says no transfers available?

any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Thanks.

:hmmm:

1 thing I can think of, is 1st off in the office go to the save/load which should be if memory serves Me correctly off to the left of the desk area. Once in that, check & see of making sure the save is there, showing you are back at base & if so.. exit out of it then exit out of the game. Once that's done, then try reloading up, then try the transfer again & see if there is a transfer option available. :D

Out idea of that, don't know what else to do to be able to arrange a transfer to another base location... Hopefully, Fifi will log on & see your post and be able to offer a more definitive answer to your inquiry.

Hopefully this suggestion does the trick & after that you don't run into another snafu.

@ Fritz Klum: can’t help you right now with the training flotillas, but surely Propbeanie could! Soon as he will read this.

Here it is. I've managed to bypass this UAC problem (application doesn't start with a red warning about exe has been blocked).

I've created a batch file on my desktop. A batch file has a .bat extension and it is used to make some actions on PC. It's a DOS command prompt, but in a file version.

So, i've made it this way. Right click on desktop and create a new text file. It will have .txt extension. Doesn't matter. Rename it as you want and make sure to replace .txt extension with a .bat one.
So it will be "test.bat", as an example.

Then open it, and write DOS command to start SH4 exe file. In my PC, the command is "c:\SH4\sh4.exe".
Save and exit.

Now launch the game with this file just created. The important thing is to start it as an Administrator.

That's it!!! :Kaleun_Salute:

Didn’t work either...still red windows this application has been blocked...
I think my computer is purely crap.
Can’t understand why it is running SH3 very fine but SH4! Both from disc...

What is going on with the very odd ship names?

For example, "KS-M-KS-M-F-M-KS-M Merchant".

It's both tagged that way in the periscope/UBT view, and shown as such in the recognition manual.

Some other merchants have weird names like this too, for example tankers (similar alphabet soup).

Been digging through all the files that came with the mod, but I haven't found this explained anywhere (yet).

sonicninja 05-28-20 07:36 AM

It’s all to do with how many masts, cranes, and island structures are on the ships

I had the exact same problem when I installed SH4 the last time. The game could only be started when I activated the hidden Windows 10 administrator account, which is not a very viable solution. Anyway, after a simple re-installation of SH4 (into a folder other than program files (x86)), the problem didn't occur anymore.

you won't find an explanation anywhere.
i believe this naming convention is a hold-over from previous release of SH.
what version of Dark Water are you playing? i ask because i have Version 6 and the ship names (classes) have been cleaned up.

Ok I think I've just sumbled upon a bug. I wanted to make another video and started a Type-IX C-Career. Shortly after leaving Lorient (maybe some 500 km away) I clicked on the "show maximum range" button and at 10 kts, the maximum range was only about 13.000 km which is way too low for a Type IX C. I went back to main menu, started a new career in a Type IX C, went to 10 kts, clicked on show maximum range, and then the max range was about 27.000 km, as it should be. Is that a known issue?

I'm using V6 and I have the ships listed by K-M-S etc, I don't mind it as i think it offers an extra challenge and once you know what the letters stand for its actually quite satisfying when you ID a ship without the recognition manual as it was a genuine method during the war

All mods in SH3 and SH4 have troubles with training flotillas, due to the way the "flotillas" and "days in base" are structured, in conjunction with the way a mission is assigned to a submarine. As such, if you take too long to do a given training mission, it throws everything afterwards "out of time", sort of like the timing chain in your vehicle slipped a notch or two, and now you are getting ignition mis-fires. Similar can happen if you are just too good at the training and complete the training too early. Now your next assignment doesn't get assigned until a certain date, and you are probably a day or two (at the least) out in front of the transfer. There is nothing preventing you though, from stopping at a base somewhere to get fuel and load-up with more torpedoes, and take it upon yourself to go "hunting", either in the Baltic, or the North Sea for a few days while you "kill some time"...

Someone else had similar happen Fifi, and I am unable to find the post. It had to do with a portion of the Windows Defender, not in the virus section, but like the malware section... I think it is Microsoft trying to eliminate all of us old dawgs from playing "legacy" games... lol

As has been pointed out by several other users here, the naming convention is actually rather descriptive. Look at that picture from the ONI manual again, and notice that "M" stands for "Mast", "K" stands for "Kingpost", "S" is "Superstructure", or just "Structure", while "F" is funnel". It describes the ship from front to back, or bow-to-stern. Generally, the "longer" the name like that, the longer the ship is in meter length, and after a while, you don't even need to look in the rec manual. You'll just go "Oh, 9 letters, so it is about 190 meters in length!"... and if you do 90 attacks, even that isn't important. ??

It has been "discovered" (again recently) that all of those little "helpful" buttons are not really so helpful after all. There is something wrong with the internal math that the games uses to determine the estimated mileage. Also found to be "wanting" is the "Time to course end". I have no clue how many hours in the day they are using, but it seems like it is twenty hours one time, then 42 hours the next. Not to be trusted. However, some players (myself included) will pawn that off to "the fog of war". You just never knew when you would have a HORS engine break on you, so it mattered little what the math equations were based upon... Might be a reason they were left out of the stock game... :arrgh!:

Mr. WH4K,

i "fixed" this issue in a previous release of Dark Waters (for my install) however i cannot find my notes at the present time.
i believe i had to discover which set of letters (KMQZMK-OU812) went with which ship. i believe i used the \Sea\Shipname.CFG and Roster\names.cfg. but this is from memory and i only have an 8k memory module. i'll look a bit deeper for my notes if you're serious about changing the names.
:Kaleun_Salute:

propbeanie 05-28-20 06:32 PM

Compare the Sea cfg to the Roster cfg to the Roster / Names.cfg...
