Free blacks certainly could own and trade slaves, but small in comparison to large planters. In certain cities some wealthy blacks were more integrated in the white community, Charleston, NO, etc, but were never seen equal to whites.

My response was only to correct the obvious erroneous statement regarding "honkies" - aka whites being the only ones who owned slaves or for whom "Live, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" applied. Given that there is documentation that shows whites were bought by blacks, such misinformation just continues a politically correct but historically inaccurate picture of slavery. It was not only whites that owned slaves and it was not only in the "south". Which is why I ended the post as I did. |

And you responded to his post, which I considered a derailment, so that applied double to yours, and I guess now applies triple to mine. :dead: |

Can we all stay on topic please.

Still I suppose its better than that "War of Northern Aggression" neo confederate claptrap which started getting thrown around in the 1950s when them damn negroes were getting a bit uppity about their civil rights down south. Oh and Jim Quote:

I do agree, the KKK is disgusting. I hate when they come here and do a rally once a year. |

To divert slightly. There was an idiot from bandit country up in Belfast court yesterday over some old flag waving civil war nonsense. Pretty standard stuff he is charged with, incitement to hatred, incitement to commit crimes, illegal assembly, illegal possession of a weapon, obstructing traffic...he claims that those British laws are only meant to apply to muslims:rotfl2: |

Interesting historical sidenote. The largest membership of the Klan outside of the South was in southern Oregon.:dead:
