Interesting they used the original score and recreated it with the same notes but of course better equipment. The woman singing was dead on.

Yes, the remaster version is wonderfull. You want new star trek? Go here:
http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/ ;)

@reallydedpoet, Bond movies are, as the owner of the previous site that I put here, re-imagining the character. Batman was a full reboot of the franchising and worked very fine.
But this new trek movie was always intent to be a prequel. J.J. Abrams said that the movie would focus the academy years of the TOS characters so; it's set on the trek universe that everybody knows.
If he had said that the movie would be a new, XXI century version/vision of Star Trek, that would span to possibly more 2 films and/or a TV show, in a "batmanian" way, there were no question about if the movie would please this or make mistakes about that, in ST universe and continuity.

The Bridge looks like it was designed by Apple :dead:

Yeah... Well... Yeah. I'll reserve judgement until the movie actually comes out, but...

Wouldn't it make more sense to build the Enterprise in orbit?

Usually, when I come up with those questions just watching the trailer, it's not a good sign.

rubenandthejets 03-23-09 06:30 AM

I remember way back when "Star Trek the Motion Picture" came out in '79.
The same year as "Alien". Trek was ok, ( an extended dance mix version of an episode with a decent budget ) but "Alien" ROCKED!

Now, thirty years later, it's time to give up. Both franchises have been done to death; no, beyond death (AVP??? WTF???). These shambling zombies need to be decapitated. :nope:

I'd rather watch "It Conquered the World" again.

XabbaRus 03-23-09 06:45 AM

Hmm is this the same Abrahams of Lost fame...

Think I will wait for the DVD.

OneToughHerring 03-23-09 07:01 AM

Hmm, looks pretty bad although I've never been an ST-fan, I do like the first two Alien films though. I remember a clip where in some ST-movie a starship defended whales from a fishing boat. I remember it because the fishermen spoke Finnish, or actually a variant of Finnish called Kven which is spoken in northern Sweden and Norway.

Found the clip on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYHfJ...eature=related

Seeing that reminds me why I did not like the trailer. I still think like four months ago: "Melrose Place" in space.

After DS9, Star Trek pretty much was dead.

Oh please, take the 1960's Star Trek and suppose for a moment that censorship wasn't a problem. You would have the same kind of experience Abrams is targeting with the new Star Trek.
I suppose Trekkies are as rabid fanboys as Galactica 1970 fans are. They will never be able to see a new reimagining of their favorite series just because it breaks their old fantasies. Hey its their loss after all. The rest of us will continue to enjoy new series, with new actors and new special effects. :yeah:
So BRING IT ON. :D :woot:

I'm always a startrek fan but Babylon 5 was far better.

I'm glad Paramount didn't listen to J. Michael Straczynski when he offered his vision because they would have kill his dream. :03:

Can you imagine what the set designer was thinking?

"Hey guys! Let's put thick glass panels on the bridge - the part of the ship that's constantly exploding and tossing crew members around. And don't forget to put at least two dozen lights at eye level at each of the stations in the back!"

Wolfehunter 03-23-09 11:15 AM

I understand why the bridge looks like that now. On the startrek forum the guys are saying that spock and bones know what happens. I think they start the true Startrek beginning but something happens. Time is changed. Only those two know this issue and well that's all I know so far. So the universe we know as traditional Startrek is history and replaced with this newer parallel universe. That is why you see the different ugly bridge... and newer looking Enterprise.

If that is true they're spining off on a new universe then startrek has a new birth.

I may like the change. But if there ripping us off with all this new vibe stuff in the same old startrek universe, I won't like the film because it would be a fake.

AVGWarhawk 03-23-09 11:54 AM

Star Trek: Episode 1 Star Date 2099, Space Orgy. To boldly go were Kirk has always wanted to boldly go with the communication officer. :88) It is more than just an ear piece, it is buttons on a consul as well.

Zachstar 03-23-09 06:12 PM

I do not like where the movie is going but I accept that this is a "new universe"

I am a firm believer in the theory of multiple universes and the ability to influence or create another from within our own. If ST wants to go that way so be it. (Keep in mind every time they go back in time in the series they create a new universe)

Voyager completely shattered the universe known as cannon.

Overall tho I think the days of Star Trek in the picture format are over. It took WAY to long for Enterprise to get good (Season 3) and audiences do not have that kind of patience these days.

I think Star Trek is going to live on in video gaming. People used the Bridge Commander PC game to create a slew of new stories (Including a major fan Season 5 for Enterprise) Eventually (Not with ST Online as it is now tho) I think they are going to let the fans move the series forward with games that let people write their own experiences.

No, Enterprise shattered the canon universe! If the last season were the first or second, the show possibly could have go on and if they did the thinks right we now had seing the romulan-earth war in the show!

The bridge design, the ship design also, the ship being build on earth :nope:!

The new movie will be the XXI century vison of Star Trek, possibly a bad one. Notting to do or to tie it to TOS!

For a great vision of both the movie and the new ship:

This is ****ing horrible. Looks like Star Trek is over for good now.

Looks like the new film might be a laugh. I grew up on trek, specifically the origional series repeats and deep space nine. I like to keep an open mind, how bad can it be? (nemesis:doh:)

P.S.

Skybird, how do you know it's going to be like bevely hills 90210 or melrose place? You must realy like those shows to recognise them from a 136 second movie trailor :yeah:
