LOL I believe 'torsk' means in english 'Cod'. At least thats what the norwegian word 'torsk' equates to.

OK, don't this actually happened . . . and I doubt that it did . . . but did anything like Operation Petticoat actually occur? I mean with the Pink Boat?

The paint would oxidize and look pink. It also happened on the aircraft. There was a notable P40 that turned pink from the oxidized paint.

Good for you! I wished I had projects like that located closer to where I live. That's the downside of living in a neutral country I guess. ;)

Back to topic: MS9 "All black" was actually the standard camouflage at the start of the war http://www.shipcamouflage.com/measure_9.htm, or alternatively MS 10 http://www.shipcamouflage.com/measure_10.htmwhile later they apparently found out that a combination of lighter grey in the sides with darker grey above was better:up:

Here's the USS Cod (Gato class with the cutdown tower) in Cleveland, Ohio, pics taken by me. I also believe she is the only fleetboat left that has a 100% working TDC. You can see the gray paint and the top deck is painted black. I remember that the deck was very hot the day I took the shots due to the sun beating down on it all day.

Here is a closeup of the tower with all the awards and ships sunk, junks sunk, and a martini glass for saving a dutch submarine crew. I didn't feel like rotating the image, sorry.

The USS Cod is a museum piece for sure. She is in great shape!

The WosMan 06-02-07 04:09 PM

I would say the best. She's completely mint and even the diesels work if they chose to run them. I suppose the fact it sits fresh water helps. If you go you have to buy the pin they sell. It has the logo of the skull with the torpedo smashing through it.

I don't know if I'll ever get to visit the US, but if I do, I won't have any problems figuring out what to do... :|\\

Damn ... Hard Rock Cafe ... had a couple good nights there a while back. (Is Hooters still out there?)

Unfortunately my journey in life has landed me in Jacksonville FLA. It'll have to be a 3 day weekend and a flight to Baltimore if I'm to take that offer. :damn:

If you do let me know and you can have a private tour of the Torsk, the beer will have to wait until they open the doors at the Hard Rock.

No doubt the finest example you will find. Currently we can only aspire to this magnitude with the Torsk but we know it can be done when we see the Cod:up:

I travel to a lot of domestic cities for work, this was a nice thread drift! :) we should make a list of domestic cites to visit submarines in! so far i can tell...

"Sub Cities"

- Baltamore Inner Harbor
- Chicago
- Mobile AL
- New York City (near the Intrepid)
- Cleveland, Ohio

ps. AVG i'll drop you a PM if im ever in town staying at the Harbor, the chances are likely, i just usually dont know when...
