Yes, right on the mark

Renown system is OK how it is for upgrades and stuff, but it is quite silly when you get demoted for transfeing to a new boat.

Perhaps they should have two seperate catagories: rank and renown. Say you start at zero, and after 3 partrols have 'earned' 3,000 points. Rank and renown would each sit at 3,000. Now say you use 2,000 for upgrades. Rank would remain at 3,000, but renown would be at 1,000.

I think it's fine. And here's why....this is the way I see it working:

"Onkel Karl...I know I'm one of your favorite Kaleuns, so I was wondering if you could possibly transfer me and my crew out of our musty clunky old Type VIIB to one of those shiny new Type VIICs. I'd be waaaaay more effective, you know."

"You know there's a shortage of those. They're backlogged in Kiel for months."

"I know, but don't you remember I sunk 44,000 tons on my last patrol!"

"Well....alright. You'll get your transfer."

"Hooray! And can I have one of those brand spankin new KDB hydrophone kits too?"

"You ask me for a new sub and I give it to you, and now you want new hydrophones too?! Come back after another 44,000 ton patrol and maybe you'll get your new hydrophones. Until then, make do with what you've got." :smug:

That's a great analysis, except for the major complaint:

"Okay, Oberleutnant, you can have the newest Type IX, but we're demoting you back to Leutnant for a while...":dead:

:88) Durrr...forgot about that part, as I've never personally run into it. That definately should change. Rank shouldn't be tied to renown. Or at least rank should be tied to cumulative renown earned over a career, regardless of if you've spent it or not.

I dont like the renown system... my only renown must be my tonnage, and it must not be lossed when you upgrade.

I think so we must to have as renown, only the tonnage reached.

Just an opinion

Sorry, but for me it sounds really illogical! That's as if Commander Walker would go to his CO and ask for a new, better ship and would get it. But he would not get the lasted radar before he has not sunk another 5 U-Boats!:rotfl:
In my opinion a good commander has to get everything to be even more succesful!

For me the renown system seems fine  but I don't think you should run the risk of losing rank you have obviously been given on merit as a result.
