Received a (final?) reply

They say that the game is NOT intended to run on my operating system.

My machine:
AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor, 3500 Mhz, 3 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s)
Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB 16384MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640
Resolution 1920 x 1080 x 60 hertz
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

They suggested that I try compatibility mode. I CAN get the movie to play full screen but flickering in a (must be on top conflict) with sound if I go with an XP style compatibility. Still can't play the game or do anything else.

Gonna give up at this point. SH4 works fine.

I get the same message, but pressing escape at that point my game starts and plays fine.

Finally! The missing piece! I'm finally able to play this game.

I'm finally able to play this game.

You all were instrumental in getting me past some of the hurdles.

Ubisoft provided the clue that told me to disable the proxy setting and that allowed me to log in to U-Play.

And finally a STEAM user supplied the last bit of info...

The advice (Rightclick SH5.exe in the Steam Gamefolder of Silent Hunter 5 then choose Compatibilty Tab then set the X on "Disable scaling on High DPI) worked like a dream. (just for good measure I also ticked the box about "run as admin")

The missing piece! It now runs great (albeit a little slow in loading)
I can FINALLY try this game.

Thanks to all who helped.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I've been pulling my hair out for 2 days, uninstalling, reinstalling, fart-arsing around and then I finally after many, MANY forum searches found this post because of the 'top left' line.

And your solution worked.

MODS - This thread needs condensing and stickying please!

If I could give you rep or kudos I would!

After a long dialog with a co-worker at UBI I manage to get my old e-mail account change to a preferred one-Even though I could not access my old e-mail account anymore(new internet provider)

Some hours ago I logged into my old account and wanted to play and was met with the message

"A Service is unavailable" Have sent a new message to this co-worker and asked him why i keep on getting this message.

Highly Recommended SH5 > The Wolves Of Steel Mega Mod

I would uninstall the default game launcher from the Control Panels Program and Features.
Replace it with this genuine one on any drive and in any folder.

That's sad to hear, but good to know for future reference. Thanks for the explanation. :sunny:
