A cat purring

One of the more satisfying sounds is the 290 fuel squeezer Cummins engine with exhaust turbo whining in a cabover sleeper Freightliner, with all 18 wheels whining harmoniously on the freeway asphalt at 0200 in the morning. Spotting a drowsy driver wavering ahead, possibly drunk but probably just falling fatally asleep, you maneuver to his six o'clock and blip the VERY LOUD thud of Jacob's compressor brake switch,(illegal in most small hamlets) restoring said malfeasant to instant wakefulness and a blip into the next rest area. A life possibly saved, you and the strawberries head on to the Big Apple... The air horn would work too but the Jacob's is just cooler.:Kaleun_Sleep:

I suppose having worked around aircraft on a daily basis I really must disagree with the idea of enjoying jet engine sounds.But when you have to yell over them to get through their noise and through ear plugs and head phones so that someone else can hear you well you get a little tired of jet engine noises as you deal with that and also feeling them drone though your body for 12 hours a day.At least crew chiefs had mike system so they could talk right into the pilots ears.Flight line work is tough business especially on a fighter base and even more so on a carrier those guys have it the hardest many people would quit that job in hours.

In a way at least to me with the sounds that a machine produces you are actually enjoying the power and the engineering that the sound represents more so than the sound itself.

Another of mine would be the sound of the daughter coming out of the shower room....my turn...eventually.

The sound of air conditioning is a favorite! :D

The sound of a woman screaming my name in orgasmic bliss.... especially when I am not there with her. :D

I long to hear no sound. Just peace & quiet, but an acute case of Tinnitus prevents this. All I hear is incessant ringing, all the time. Ironically, the quieter it is, the more pronounced the ringing becomes and it's been getting worse as the years pass. Doctor said it was due to nerve damage and when I was 36, a hearing test revealed I had a significant loss of this sense.

The Jake Brake is only cool if you're running straight stacks with no mufflers. Then you can awaken those sleepy little bergs in the night and your co-driver too.

I to live with this! I hear it even when the TV/radio is on.
I got it from being in Bands from age 13 to around age 25.
All I'd like to hear is the sound of my Wife breathing while asleep minus the ringing.
