Do a search. It's not nearly as often as you might think. Or as often as I thought. Still, it seems like a lot.

Hi fellow sub-simmers, a long time SH player- currently running SH4 1.5 modded- I am considering SH5 and have a few questions about it if somebody would be kind enough to answer them please.

1. With previous versions of SH there was no patching of exec files required, other than the official patches- is that the same for SH5?

2. Is the most current version 1.2 ?

3. Which package is considered most desirable between the collectors and gold editions do these come with 1.2 included? Is the package that includes the bonus disk the same as collectors edition?

4. Do you really have to be connected at all times (or hack SH5) in order to play the game?

5. Is there a mod that allows play on the U.S. side?

Thanks for any insights you may have to offer in answering my question.

1. No .. if you want a working hydrophone you're gonna need the .exe patcher. It's pretty straight forward tho.

2. Yes, afaik.

3. Havent got a clue on that one.

4. At least since 1.2 you can go in offline mode.

5. There was one in the making/planning .. but they decided to build a full game out of it I think.

1. Patching the game with non-official patches is not required, but highly recommended for fixing many bugs and adding new cool features. Follow the URL below for version history (with incomplete list of patches available) and download link of TDW's patcher:

2. Yes, this is the last official patch. Game should be updated automatically after product registration, but sometimes the automatic patching doesn't work. In this case manual patching is required.

3. None of them. Most SH5 players are content with the retail edition. If you want my personal opinion, bonus material contained in the Gold and Collector's Editions is not worth the extra money. Make sure not to get the steam version (not compatible with unofficial patches).

4. Not anymore. You only need to be online the first time you run the game, for product registration and game activation.

5. Nope, as far as I know.

...and yes, the game is definitely worth buying :03:

With the Generic Patcher and vast array of mods released thus far I am very interested to hear from veteran players regarding what (if any) is still flawed/missing from SH5 that makes SH3 still the leading Subsim available?

Is there anything groundbreakingly bad that so many people still dismiss the game? Anything that is totally left behind by the devs that is unfixable?

I can hardly be called a veteran SH5 player, since my ancient computer ran it for a week and then refused to do so anymore. That said, I think I can answer your question fairly because anyone can see the obvious. The major things still missing are the other u-boat types, more than 100 different merchant types and the crew. You now have a few key officers and men you can talk to, but none of the rest of the crew. A part of SH3 and SH4 is the ability to assign the most qualified men to the appropriate stations. SH4 even rotates the crew automatically and puts the best men in charge when "Battle Stations" is called. In SH5 those men and their qualifications don't even exist.

The minor things are simply things that haven't been done yet - things like the working canal and harbor locks. The major SH3 supermods - GWX, LSH3 and WAC - add many interesting ships, boats and even blimps to the list of things to experience. I left off NYGM because its fixes are mostly in the gameplay, and the SH5 mods actually do cover most of that ground.

That can only be answered by the modders, but I will say that the people who still dismiss the game are those who don't like the sort of gameplay it offers. A great many people play it and love it. :sunny:

I found two things right away that make this worth it. First the annoying ship stops while in friendly port can be stopped. Yeah. The graphics are good and the mods make it great. The bugs are being fixed by the modders (good job guys) and the game is immersive. What more can you ask for?
