I've had a similar experience just to the east of the Caribbean sea around the various islands and UK bases.
Two large tankers without protection in one 'convoy', then a US warship escorting a US flagged large merchant and a UK flagged liner in another 'convoy' a short time later.
Naturally extreme care was taken to only hit the liner and not come any where near the US ships. I've never taken so much care in setting up a shot.
To be fair, one of the tankers took a huge amount of punishment before sinking. The other was despatched without much fuss.
