High end PC, broadband connection and still loading times of every mission are really ridiculous ...
And btw, right now authorization server for RoF is down, so no one can play ... :damn:

For a full fifteen minutes :O:

HundertzehnGustav 01-31-10 10:41 AM

but how many times "fifteen minutes" does that happen a month?

even once is too much. or can one sue them if it happens?
i mean, it was paid! do we get a refund? do we get goodies? new subs every time they take a server offline? can we sue them for not delivering the products/services, claiming we do not care about their server maintenance?

Onkel Neal 01-31-10 10:45 AM

By all means, sue them, that's the American way :D

Neal,
just imagine what these 15 minutes do, when you landed after really successful mission (f.e. during campaign) and you are expecting new shinny medal ... or after really good online fight with many air victories ...
just 2 of many possible examples (both already happened to me) ...

PS: sorry for my poor english ...

LuboS,

Yeah, not a good thing.

DON'T

JUMP

TO

CONCLUSIONS.

EXACTLY RIGHT! :yeah:. There's no guarantee that Ubi's system will be as reliable as ROF's. :DL.

I mean... sue them, just because you forbid Violence.
If i could have spoken my mind I would go and buy me an "American way" Baseball bat, and pay a friendly visit to the worldwide top dogs:arrgh!: that had this "online only=no piracy" idea.

One might think that such an expression WOULD HAVE BEEN a little extreme, but, the way i see it, this "Control Mania" is part of the Way Humanity is heading. Bar-Code tatoos when you are born, and with a Wifi-device in your head, so that the Governments and companies can track your identity and habits, and manipulate you and whatnot.

But alas:timeout:, as both of us do not like Violence; i do not say such things, but only attempt to drag them to court...

:haha:

Lol, ok, I think I see: a game company makes a game and adds copy protection you don't like, so that means it's time to hit people with a baseball bat :haha: Yikes! I'm glad people in this forum don't apply that approach to me--"Hey, I have to log in to post? What the H377 is this **&*%$#%$ %#$*&^% ??!!?? I'm grabbing my Mickey Mantel and heading down to Houston to pay Onkel Neal a visit!!"

:03:I'm kidding, I know you are not a violent guy, we can joke, right? Right? :o

Well, the ROF DRM wasn't good enough either. Again we see that the paying customer suffers while the pirates play with no DRM. As i see it not all "pirates" download games or cracks just because it's free. Some wants to get away from the DRM's and the problems it causes. There is no way that i'm buying any Ubisoft game with the OSP no matter how much i want to play it.

ROF does use pretty much exactly the same DRM system as what is described for SHV. I have played it since launch and the DRM has not been an issue for me, but I am fortunate to have good broadband.

As for the long load times, that is just because ROF is a CPU pig. When you download a custom mission they are usually well under 1mb. It is just files that trigger objects already on your PC. One of the devs stated that in the average stock mission you are loading 1.5GB of info, even a fast CPU will take a bit of time with that. Optimizing the load times has always been a hot topic on the forums. I would guess that the server is only transferring these small files when you are playing custom missions but who knows.... one of the guys on the boards said his ROF server used 40x the bandwith of his IL-2 server :o

Nice, someone coming up with facts! I hope the ones still supporting UBI strategy read this and start thinking a bit more critical.
