thanks, I remember I heard only one time the acute sound only, when I was outside the sub in the external view.

This is weird too, normally I can't hear any ping from that view!

I'll make more observations.

Commander Gizmo 10-26-09 06:04 PM

I wish you could hear the ping when in external view. It just seems to make sense that you would.

Sag75 10-26-09 06:24 PM

Hi, yes, but normally when you are into the sub and a DD is pinging, you hear the ping. When you jump outside you can't no more hear that.. but if you return inside, you can hear the ping again. What I heard outside, that surprised me, was only the acute ping (the second you can hear in the file above) and not the normal one.

So, for what modelled reason I can hear ONLY the acute tone outside the sub??

Sag75 10-26-09 11:13 PM

Here some news. I'm sure about this things:

1. the acute tone occours when a DD is pinging and you get the detection message in events menù and from your crew.
2. when you have the detection message, you may expect this particular ping within some normal pings that follow the detection alert. After several normal pings, it's not heard any more. You need an other detection message to have it back.
3. it seems indipendent by sea floor level (last time it was over 1000) and depth (I was at 140) and sub side to DD.
4. the number of DDs doesn't seem relevant.
5. on the contrary of the normal ping, this higher tonality ping (and only it) is also heard outside the sub in external view!

that's all, for now!

data\Sounds\sonar_coat.wav sounds very much like your second ping.

You could always go into the sound folders of both GWX installations and check out/compare the echelot, sonar, sonar_coat and sonar_coat_imp files.

The only possibilities.

SH1 heads (like me!) may remember that returning pings (i.e. those echoes off of you that the DD could pick up, rather) sounded different than non-returning ones. Dunno if this is the same feature or not tho...

Kpt. Lehmann 10-27-09 11:58 PM

Creepy! In a cool sort of way.

Sag75... have you added ANY other sound mods to your SH3/GWX installation?

Sag75 10-29-09 11:58 PM

Hi, no, it's just the GWX3 installation.

I compared the sounds with a sound editor, and I'm pretty confident that Jimbuna and Gizmo are right, the second ping is sonar_coat.

So it gives us the opportunity to understand why sonar_coat is played when our sub is detected and we get the alert! (and it can be hear outside). Where I can find an informative file on that?

thx

So nobody can answer me why sonar_coat is played just few times when I get alert messages.. even if I don't have any Alberich on my sub? :(

I don't know mate. In all my days of working on GWX, I've never experienced it or read a testing-crew communication regarding this matter.

I humbly put forth it is a bug and you should enjoy it while it lasts.
