Lol, thanks for the laughs :)

The ulltimate reason for the oposing political views in America seems to be increasingly that people in one party can' stand/cope with the other party member' opinion, and such any opinion expressed by one side is just contradicted by the other independently of being a right ou left type of proposal... though even this arcaic notion cant' be entirely looked upon for a "political frame"... for instance the right wing arty on the netherlands wich advocates euthanasia, welfare state policies such as taxpayer-paid daycare for working people, and permissive cannabis policy (or so the wikipedia says...:|\\bunch of hippies I say!:p)

Wow! In the USA, what you've described is the far left of the Democratic Party.:yep:

OneToughHerring 09-04-08 11:37 AM

Thought I'd answer a few of these from the point of view of a foreign person. Actually I think both parties have some serious problems to solve if they want to improve US's standing around the world.

Oh like about US selling some to them? And the present situation with the Abu Ghraib/Guantanamo/extraordinary renditions/etc. is ok?

6. You believe that tobacco’s link to cancer and global warming are “junk science”, but Creationism should be taught in schools
But to be a liberal you must believe that tobacco-usage is not a person's right, global warming is man-made, and that we should have a public education system that for some bizarre reason, thinks that the government should have anything to do with education to begin with.
Tobacco use a person's right? You mean like, for kids too? I'm sure you have proof about global warming not being affected by the mankind?

Oh yea, a government comprised of people like Bush and Cheney. Can't say I would trust that type of thing to run health care.

8. You have to believe that the best way to fight terrorism is to alienate our allies and then demand their cooperation and money
But to be a liberal you need only believe that fighting everything can be done by demanding the AMerican people's cooperation and money.
Are the American people somehow opposed to big corporations paying the bill for USA's wars?

9. You have to believe it is wise to keep condoms out of schools, because we all know if teenagers don’t have condoms they won’t have sex
Just like people that don't have guns won't kill each other, and people that don't have freedom won't hurt themselves.
Teenage pregnancies, guns and Jesus. Sounds like a recipe for freedom to me.

10. You have to believe that the best way to encourage military morale is to praise the troops overseas while cutting their VA benefits
Whereas liberals know that belittling their accomplishments and politicizing the war won't hurt them a bit in the form of political pressure and ridiculous Rules of Engagement.
Ending up in a VA-hospital kinda qualifies as torture.

11. You have to believe that you love Jesus and Jesus loves you – and Jesus shares your hatred of AIDS victims, homosexuals, and liberals
But to be liberal you need only believe that everyone hates you and there should be a law to stop it.
Oh yea they kill blacks, abortion doctors and homosexuals out of love, how could I forget that.

12. You have to be against a woman’s right to choose, but support the murder of millions by air strike
But to be Liberal you only have to believe that airstrikes in Republican wars have caused more deaths than abortion in the U.S. alone. (I'm not even totally pro-life mind you, I just hate silly arguments)
What Enigma wrote earlier.

13. “Standing Tall for America” means firing your workers and moving their jobs to India so you can get products from WalMart
"Doing what's best for America" means interfering with business so the corporations that outsourced smelly factories and crappy jobs will just move the whole operation somewhere else.
I think this is a kind of a tie. You're both right, and both wrong. :D

Even though liberal education policy gave schools the power to determine that in the first place
Determine that christianity > other religions? Where?

15. You have to believe that government should stay out of people’s lives, but needs to punish anyone caught having private sex with the same gender
You believe government should punish/regulate every other aspect of their lives
Haha, another tie, although I have to say I do find the republican side here very creepy. How can they talk about less government while enforcing policies that go against certain types of unions between adults? Although I have to admit my own country does that too, no gay marriages here.

16. You have to believe that those privileged from birth achieve success all on their own
You believe that liberal politicians are somehow different from successful capitalists
Inherited wealth seems to be a pretty common denominator among republicans.

You have to believe that the ACLU has anything to do with the Constitution, but you think gun laws will affect criminals better than drug laws do.
I don't understand why you couldn't have both drug and gun laws that you both desire. A compromise?

Quote:

18. You have to believe that we actually went to war in Iraq to find WMD’s because they were a clear and present threat to the United States
You have to believe that any war is about anything besides money or power
Ok...so that makes it right?

19. You have to believe Bill Clinton getting a blowjob in the Oval Office is appalling, but Newt Gingrich serving his wife with divorce papers on her deathbed is A-OK.
You have to believe that politicians should have power that allows their morality to affect the nation.
Again, wait...isn't that kind of more in the republican base, that type of thinking...? Or is it? Confusing. :)

You have to believe anything big brother tells you
Big brother? The tv-show?

And to be a liberal you have to believe that we have hungry, naked people in this country and that people should not be allowed to decide whether or not they care, despite the efforts of private charity.
You know, take it from someone who lives in country where taxes are supposedly high. Having a strong governmental health care etc. doesn't take away people's right to do more good. On the contrary, I would say, people in so called high taxation nations are often the most willing to help out even more in the form of collections, help to the starving etc.

22. You have to believe that Clinton inhaling once is the sign of moral defect, while Bush’s drinking and driving was excusable because he was young
You have to grasp at straws.
Bush also used cocaine. And I've never even smoked weed. :)

23. You have to believe that spending money on the war in Iraq is more important then fighting the drug dealers and gang members whom are harming American’s
You have to believe that the drug war is not a failure with more casualties and at infinitely greater cost than the war in Iraq. While you're at it, throw in the War on Poverty.
How about they're all failures?

Man, US politics is confusing sometimes.

Most of us don't care how you view us. The loud voice of our lefty media outlets emphasize what you want to hear. But that's all it is. You guys seriously need to deflate your national ego. What are you going to do to improve your standing in our eyes?

And your rebuttals show you have no clue as to who we are in America. It's all complete nonsense.

Like I said earlier, to me the US parties are like two mafia families. What's the point of choosing between bad options.

I believe South Park provided an excellent analogy to this problem in an episode in which the children had to choose between a "Giant Douche" and a "Turd Sandwich" as their school mascot.
To quote the episode as closely as I am able; "It's always about choosing between some douche and some turd.":D

The entire political system summed up as well as it can be.

Please note that I did NOT, repeat NOT, say the US political system. It applies to political systems all over this planet. If I'm wrong someone please name a political system that involves no douches and no turds:doh:

This seems lik a converstion between a teenager and his parents... America doesn't care about what old mother Europe has to say, she's old she doesn't understand what a teencountry needs! But some years latter they'll come to accept their differences, and America wll see that ol' Europe was just trying to do what was best for her:hmm:

Now really, it's not that we think you has a nation have made a hash out of things... No You'v done brilliantly,, it's just that Everybody has got high expectations from you guys, and sometimes you get a little bit too cocky... And you tumble... And I'm sorry but this last adminstraton has taken a big one... I'm not asking if you think democrats would do a better job, sincerely I think that Gore is as sharp as a rounded log, but do you really think that Bush Junior has the profile of a leader of the major potency of th world (or is that Russia now... can't quite put my finger...)? Common? And someguys thing that McCain is a worst Republican than Junior?! c'mon even Bush Senior must think that McCain's a better guy... At least he's got better sence of humor!
Just think about it, if McCain and Bush Jr. came into this forum, wich one do you think would stay to chat? Mc would be an Admiral before Bushy even could understand half of the things we're saying here! (provided that someone could explain mcCain how to post - heard he' not a big fan of computers:damn:) ehehe

Thank you, SS107. Sea Demon in the past has shown his arrogance towards others. He once had the nerve to claim that all Middle-Easterners were terrorists.:rotfl: Childish steroetype, but I had to chuckle.

Yeah, idiot. You have a nasty habit of misrepresenting people's views and statements. Please find the statement I made saying "all people from the Middle East are terrorists". You will be searching this forum forever, because you won't find such a statment from me. I never made any such remark...fool.

Although when looking at politics in my country there are still the occasional scandal etc. and problems with things like transparency. One party with a markedly anti-immigration policy is gaining ground so we have our own populists too. With the US it's a question of scale especially on the whole country - level, I guess the part that Europeans don't often see about the US is the state - level politics.

Sounds very arrogant of you to say that "Ol' Europe" is just trying to keep America out of trouble. We had to take the lead role in rebuilding "Old Mother Europe" last century after you guys nearly destroyed yourselves, we intervened militarily helping to conduct regime change in Nazi Germany and Mussolini's Italy, and protected you from an expansionist and hostile Soviet Union for the last 50 years. How quickly these things are forgotten.

Actually, you guys need to worry about yourselves. You and the rest of the European continent as a whole are not perfect. Very flawed in fact. Very cocky of you to think otherwise......especially from what I've seen of you guys over there. Europe is nothing special in comparison to anybody else. And no, most of us don't care what you think about us or the decisions we make. Your press and ours make you think we do. But we really don't. Seriously, you guys may need to polish up your own image. Some of you guys look arrogantly ignorant to many of us. Not all of you, but those of you with this attitude do. What do you suppose you need to do to improve your own image to the USA? I mean, gee-whiz, I don't get where some of the people from your continent think that we "need" to impress you or gain your approval everytime we make a decision. We simply don't. Where the heck did you guys ever get that idea? It's quite comical, and reeks of arrogance. You may consider how you need to improve that image. I actually prefer to think of Europe as a mutual partner. While I may come across as harsh here, there is a point to it. We have benefitted from our relationship with you guys as well. But this whole notion that we owe you anything, need to "improve our image" to you, or that we need to strive to gain your approval in how we run our nation doesn't fly.

I won't address your views regarding either Mr. Bush or Mr. McCain.

Well I managed to find one of your statements on gays in 5 minutes:

What absolute hogwash. I think it's the other way around. Homosexual's and their fellow activists are intolerant bigots to society at large and view anybody who disagrees with their agenda in complete disdain. Wishing to keep societal norms and working to those ends is denying nobody any rights. Homosexuals can marry, but only people of the opposite sex. Also, the right to marriage doesn't exist at all. But marriage is a well defined institution. I don't think many of the people of this thread can see the distinction. Nor do they want to.

Not exactly the quote you accused me of, right? That thread shows the elemental context of that statement. I don't regret making it. But nice try to save face by pulling anything out of your hat though. You simply can't find the false statement you accuse me of, so you just make anything up. Typical.

Later on I say:

And no, Gays do not threaten my life, nor do I hate them. But they have to follow the rules just like everybody else.
Nice try at slanderous misrepresentation though.
