Sorry for being late. Also sorry to thehiredgun for being curt, I thought he was the type that doesn't read instructions ;)

To clarify:

Maps are stored in Sh3Gen\Userdata folder.

The file you open is always Sh3Gen\<MapFolder>\Sh3Gen Tracking Room.TTKGP

TTKGP is the filetype for TatukGIS projects and the extension must be associated with TatukGIS viewer. If it opens with notepad, it is because it is associated with the editor!

You can still open TatukGIS and open the Sh3Gen Tracking Room.TTKGP file. If you open .shp or .gml files the map will be displayed only partially.

If you're interested in this, check my brand new SHIV TR project. I have released 5 maps for the PTO which I think are much better than the Sh3Gen TR ones. even better, you can use without reloading / firing up Sh3Gen!

Thank You to the GlobalExplorer, sure appreciated. Will also look into SHIV maps too.

@GlobalExplorer:

When the tatukgis viewer opens and displays a sh3gen-map there is the legend on the right side of the screen. At the bottom there are 4 checkmarks unchecked (merchan_traffic, asw_traffic, warship_traffic, submarine trafic) When checking them they create small squares on the map. But they do not seem to be ships, as they allways stay at the same position compared with later savegames (of later dates). Are they by any chance waypoints of ships belonging to those groups? If so, why? What is their usefullness? Just for 'potential' risk/opportunity?

GlobalExplorer 08-23-08 05:09 PM

@Pisces: these layers are supposed to indicate traffic concentrations and they are indeed waypoints. You should see the concentrations when zoomed out.

@thg: did you get it to work then?

@GE. Real nice that SH4 map

thehiredgun 08-24-08 05:50 AM

Sh3 Generator has always worked good & i have especially appreciated the 8.2 version"more detailed for more ports" only regret that its maps aren't as sh-4 maps. Sorry i'm a die hard Grey Wolf fan !

I'd be happy to, but I don't play sh4 just yet.

GlobalExplorer 08-25-08 10:07 AM

You don't even need SHIV to use my maps, and I really need people to put them under review. A lot of information will probably be ambiguous, but I can't help if no one asks.

The Tracking Room 2 application is going to be much more lightweight than Sh3Gen, and you really don't need a degree in computer science to use the intel maps that I published.

Me neither. My PC can't run it, so I have fired it up no more than 3 or 4 times. My plan was to wait until better mods (incuding my own) are available.

This is probably the first mod ever that was created without actually ever playing the game :rotfl:

Just realized you got your site back up. Got a few of the versions saved for posterity now.

Still using just v.07.1 for net1.1 so can't help with reviewing the ShIV maps but wanted to thank you for the mod work & keeping the D/L site going.

Why not? Neither Dotnet nor Sh3Gen are requirements, all you need is the viewer application, and that is included in the download.

Moreover I recommend an update to Sh3Gen v0.8.2 because it already includes the Tracking Room module, which is planned to replace Sh3Gen in the future.

bert8for3 08-26-08 07:18 AM

@GE. I took a look at the sh4 maps in the Tatuk viewer. They look great  . I can't say that I really have any comments or suggestions :hmm: . I like the zone info (patrols, air cover etc).

GlobalExplorer 08-26-08 09:49 AM

Thank you for taking the time. Do you think they will be useful in planning your patrol or to see what's going on? Lets forget for the moment that you don't play SHIV.

Here an update on what I am working on. Docked ships:

No problem. ...

For sure. I'm assuming it'll work much the same way as sh3Gen and ie be configurable in terms of quantity and accuracy of data? I've taken to running it several times during a patrol with settings on relatively higher quantity but relatively lower accuracy. So kind of simulating updated intel reports during the patrol, but not that I can rely on anywhere near 100%.

edit/add: For example, in my current patrol I was assigned to EK74. After 20+ days of zilch traffic, I'm moving northwest into DG based on sh3Gen intel and then planning to work eastward to Las Palmas to resupply from the supply ship Corrientes (IIRC the name). Good fun.
