Not to confuse people any, ;) but distance measurement will be changed again with the next RFB release. Since I now have access to all the key recognition manuals from the war, the mast/stack/flight deck heights will be those as known to Allied intelligence (for the most part, they are reasonably accurate). The reference points will be as follows:

-Merchants: mast height
-Warships (minus carriers): funnel height
-Carriers: flight deck height

Yeah thanks for letting us know in advance...:rotfl:
But guess it doesn't apply to me since I'm running 1.4

Finding range with the (insert at least three good curse words here) stadimeter will always be problematical. It will make you abuse your puppies and curse your children. It all begins with the wonderful opportunity to spend several minutes misidentifying your target. Then you are working with such small angles that having a waterline/masthead (or whatever) mismatch of a few pixels cam make your range wrong by hundreds of yards. Sounds like there should be a better way to do business... Maybe there is... Could it be....The Dick O'Kane Manual Targeting Method???:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:(you knew that was coming)

Now it doesn't matter what kind of hostile ship that is. (It is still not recommended to shoot at friendly shipping) As long as the torpedo can get there, you could give a rat's patootie how far away it is. Take the pressure off by setting up the TDC 30 minutes before you fire and never having to touch it again. Take a nap while the exec gets your boat into position. Save weight by dropping that fancy ID manual overboard. PK? Fogittaboutit!!! Killing bad guys doesn't HAVE to be difficult!

This message has been brought to you by WASSAT, the WernerSobe (memorial?) Advanced School of Submarine Attack Tactics. Demonstrations by a professional submarine captain on a closed course. Do not attempt these maneuvers in real life. Your results may vary. Side effects can include nervousness, difficulty sleeping, tremors, difficulty breathing, convulsions and death, similar to a sugar pill.

Taking the range using the ruler in the nav map is always off a bit, too, because there is built-in fudge factor specifically so you can't get the exact range this way. This is present in all versions and mods for SH4.
