A submurged U-boat travelling at 3 to 5 knots regardless of silent running is a lot easier to hear than one might think... even with ww2 technology. books, articles and web pages i have read indicated that destroyers would use ASDIC while rushing toward the contact at 15 - 20 knots in order to close the distance quickly, while still maintaining a slow enough speed for their equipment to be effective in plotting the position of the u-boat. - above 20 knots their listening and pinging equipment is pretty much useless |
A couple of N Class DDs have kept me running for my life for the past 3 1/2 hours!
Battery level just above 50% Air is OK Depth is 252 meters No torps left they circle over and over hounding me. for the past hour, they have just been dropping about 3-6 DCs on me....down from their 10-12 patters for the first two hours. So far been rattled a couple of times...but no damage. At 250 meters or so, I should be too deep or under a thermal layer so they cannot track me. :x I've been shaking my fist at the bastards for a while now....they have to run out of DCs eventaully??? maybe?? I just transferred 4 of my 5 officer to their own boats....looks like they may be the only survivors of U-178. We had beans and cabbage for lunch, is Bernard's farting giving away our position?? how do they do it? |

Edit: Yes... depeding on your realism settings they will run out of DCs sooner or later |
i have done he same as you before i learnt this. all you have to do is this.....
if there is 2 on your ass .....stay at you current depth and change course by 5 degrees every 5 mins.......say........180.....185....190.....195.. ...back to 190.....185 you get the picture, just dont head in circles. if one dd is on you then you have more options.......... stay at depth your at, after he makes a pass at you and drops charges go ahead flank for 7 secs and change course by 45 then back to 2 knts. keep doing this until he buggers off. believe me these two tacs have been a god send to me and they do work for me. |
