I was working in San Francisco on the 11th floor of 555 Pine St., 1/2 block down from Chinatown during the First Fleet Week in the 1980's when I saw an A-4 Skyhawk fly by the window. We immediately went up to the roof to see the Blue Angels flying between the buildings in the Financial District just prior to making mock bombing runs on the Soviet Consulate on Green St. Hill. That said, San Francisco has always been a leftist town going back to the SF General Strike and the Longshoreman's Union efforts in the 1930's. My father was a young reform-school hoodlum and member of the Young Communist League in those days, as were most of his friends. I won't address Daly, but the SF supervisors have long been known as self-aggrandizers.
As far as Code Pink & Veterans for Peace, they have a constitutional right to believe and demonstrate as they do & the latter have earned that right IMHO. If some don't like thier political stance, that's ok. I, as a liberal, will defend to the death Michelle Malkin's right to be a no-talent neocon political hack and would defend her against the same type of censorship she preaches for on the aforementioned.
Fleet Weeks have always been a recruiting tool for the Navy/Marines. Considering the abysmally incompetent prosecution of this bloody Iraqi Occupation/Oil theft, if I was a young man of military age, I would still join the Navy as the safest alternative to driving a fuel truck between Kuwait & Baghdad or trying to referee a civil war in someone else's country where the only thing the opposing sides have in common is a virulent hatred of...Me.
