I've played with a Gar out of Pearl and an S-boat->Porpoise in the Asiatic fleet all only up to early 1942. The only boat I was allowed to transfer was the Porpoise, which was true immediately after recieving it (after 3 patrols in the S-boat and no ability to transfer).
That would fit with the idea that the only requirement (besides a single patrol?) is that the boat be in the fleet you are trying to transfer to. |
I started in Manilla, was switched to Java then switched to Fremantle on my 3rd patrol. At that point they said I was a good boy and they gave me a new sub and sent me to PH to pick it and this is my new port.
Can't you transfer a base using the phone in the office? |

However I think the Porpoise is the only sub that is like that until later in the war, and the Asiatic Fleet always introduced new sub types later than Pearl. |

I started my first career at Pearl in a Tambor. I upgraded to a Gato in June of 1942. Through Dec of 1942 (the last time I left on a patrol), I've not even been offered a transfer. Every time I click on the phone it pops up "Transfer not available". I suspect that Pearl is the only naval base running those boats at this time, and from the descriptions you guys are giving, that seems correct. I can understand why the old S boats are based in Manila at the start of the war, they don't have the range to make it from Pearl.

More transfer questions. (I love replying to posts older than me!)
I haven't found too much info about how transfer work so once again I rely on the length of your beard to enlighten me;
It's April 1943, I started my campaign from the very beginning of the war with a sugar boat in Manila. I cheated a lot with Saving/Reloading games to practice approaches, targeting, etc... I got offered a Sargo and now the Gato class USS Drum. Anyhoo, right now my renown is exploding and I am packin' like Captain Harlock :arrgh!:! Having said all this, I never used the transfer phone. Now I got 4 choices:
PS: I agree with Quillian's footer. That applies greatly and truthfully to all the modders hanging around here. What are we waiting for to create our own company and develop our own ideal sub simulation game? |

you need to start your patrol then end it go back in base and you'll be at your new assignment. |

Wow, I didn't think there was ever a problem getting a transfer as long as you're sitting in the office. I started out in Manila, lost the base to the enemy, picked up the Jawa base for the second (and third?) patrol, when I finished that one I knew we were going to lose that base as well so I picked up the phone in the office and got the Gato in Pearl. In short, I thought all you have to do is pick up that telephone in the office (Of course, you don't know what you're going to get or where, THAT'S the catch!!):doh: :doh: Good Hunting D40/USS Drum |
I kinda was wondering the same thing, only I am using the USS Montana class BB ( mod obviously ) but I'm stationed in pearl, I would like to be transfered to down under with hopefully a gato class sub, getting kinda tired of the 14 inch guns lol

Not sure how stock or other mods handle dates and boats at different bases, but TMO does it this way, as per the manual:
Brisbane command : (15Apr42 to 30Jan45) Standard flotilla based in Brisbane Australia. Patrols the southwest pacific. Submarine availability dates: S-18 class: 1941 - 01Nov43 Balao class: 01Jul43 - 1945S-42 class: 1941 - 15Oct43 Narwhal class: N/A Porpoise class: 01Jul42 - 1945 Salmon class: 01Jul42 - 1945 Sargo class: 01Jul42 – 1945 Tambor class: N/A Gar class: 01Sept42 - 1945 Gato class: 01Nov42 - 1945 Being I have a Tambor I haven't tried to transfer, but I missed the Solomons show. Trouble is, I rarely get to patrol the area from Brisbane Command. I usually get stuck going to patrol off Truk or Palau, and every now and then over by the western approaches to Rabaul on New Britain. The one time I did get a patrol over in the Slot, I came upon a night engagement and our surface fleet was taking a pasting, so I snuck around behind the Jap surface fleet, and got in real close, and pasted a heavy cruiser, and a destroyer. Completely upset the Japanese plans that night! The American surface fleet then gained the upper hand, and because of them shelling the Japanese destroyers and light cruisers, I was able to sneak off without so as getting pimged even once. |
