For me a u-boat always a u-Boat, I have nonthing wrong with SHIV but I was always reading a watching movies that played on that side of the world,(North Atlantic) and it was the biggest battle of world war II and the longest.Japs ships are to easy to sink!:D :D

Maybe the folks a Ubisoft, will start thinking on SH V, donnot rush it! run with DX10 maybe the fall on 2008! be sides the u-boat side of gamming will be larger in sales world wide than SHIV.

This is a debacle for Ubisoft. The released date was pushed forward for a “world wide release”, only to have pirates and Europeans get their hands on it first and expose the game play issues. No doubt there was and are people who are in the middle on deciding to buy this game, who will likely have second thoughts like the poster. This could have been avoided if ubisoft would have kept their original l 13th released date and street dated this game.

The cynic in me suggests that the whole reason for Ubi setting a worldwide release day was exactly to try and avoid people hearing some of the downsides to SH4 before they purchased it. As it happens, that didn't quite work out for them, so at least some people will get to save their money...well until it is patched a bit.

Amen BH:yep:

That is what I was trying to say all along. Right now I am straddling the fence whether to buy it or not.:yep:

I am optimistic that many issues that have been reported will get resolved with patches and that many of the excellent international modders here who said that they have no interest in the PTO will come around and produce another great supermod. I will still buy sh4 because I believe that with a little help and time, it can be great.

Yes it is. If you poke, cajole and downright beg with a company to put out a finished product that really is a simulator - like Dangerous Waters - and they still refuse, then voting with your feet is the only option.

If the man feels this way, I think he's right. I'm unable to decide yet, and I'll defer judgement for the time being, but if I reached the same position as him I'd walk away from it myself.

I can understand what you're saying, but in all honesty have you ever bought a game (other than SHIII) that has so many bugs?

Why bother to subscribe to a company that seems to rush out unfinished games?

From what I'm reading in this forum there has been very little improvement, and I for one will not waste money in the hope that one day they'll get it right.

This sounds exactly like the complaints about SHIII, and I thoroughly enjoyed that one, warts and all. The patches and mods made it worlds better, but I still had a great time until then.

I'm sure SH4 will be the same.

I was wondering what the atmosphere was like in 05', thanks SS you answered my question. I am sure that I will have my complaints once I have it, but am positive it will get better:up:

Its amazing how quickly people forget. I vaguely remember there being two camps of players. Patched with 1.3 and unpatched. Patch 1.3 broke the soundman - he couldnt call out contacts anymore. It was like he was deaf. That was quite the source of contention, and in a game where sound is everything. quite a problem. Even more amazing that a PATCH broke it. Fun times :88)

The only title I've bought in the last 3 years with as many bugs/faults or simply unfinished features as SHIII is Splinter Cell Double Agent, also an Ubi title.

Not quite exactly the way it was, but close. It was...

Patched to 1.3 with broken soundman

-or-

Patched to 1.2

Were there some people that played it completely unpatched? Yes, but very few, as most preferred to have at least the bug fixes that 1.2 contained + mods made for 1.2, of which there were quite a few.

I think debacle is quite a bit on the dramatic side. As far as I understand people seem to think the game is fine, buggy and not perfect, but no show stoppers. Opinions differ on graphics and sound, but debacle? I don't think so :) Anyways I ended up re-ordering the game again and await its arrival.

Fat boy thim, Ubi is easily the markets most sloppy pc publisher these days. Nothing they make is okay at release. As much as I frown upon EA they release rather well working pc games.

Yeah I agree with you there. Ubi only survived as they bought up a load of half decent franchises around 2000.
