CAM-Ship Beta

By Iambecomelife.

Vessel was created using Sansal’s Pack3d extractor. It is compatible with any stock or super-modded version of Silent Hunter III but the damage model and renown values are based on the GWX supermod. Includes the kingposts from Sergbuto’s large cargo. Also includes data files modified by Ref and possibly other members of the GWX team. The Hurricat skin is partly based on the Hurricane from the GWX supermod. Tested using GWX 1.03.

Installation Instructions:

1)-Extract the contents of the folder Data to your Sh3 main directory.

2)-IMPORTANT! Open Data\Sea\Englishnames.cfg (or Germannames.cfg depending on your language) and add the following line:

M36B=CAM-Ship

Additional Information
***********************
Historically, only the British used CAM-ships. This vessel may appear whenever the campaign has entries for generic British merchant vessels. There is one Hawker Hurricane assigned to its airgroup.
Because CAM Ships were produced after the war started, all of the skins featured in the download are camoflage. It receives progressively heavier armament over the course of the war.

You can easily mod it into existing missions/campaign layers but PLEASE back up your files. I am not responsible for any damage incurred as a result of using this mod.

This may not be used in payware mods. If included in freeware mods, please give due credit. I can't respond to PM requests for assistance - please post all questions, comments, and flames on the subsim.com forums.

Known Problems:

-Because of node constraints most ventilation ducts are dummies. Don't bother shooting at them; all but a few of the ones on the stern are indestructible.

-The reflection from the ship is still the default Liberty Ship reflection. Using a corrected reflection caused severe problems with texturing that are still unresolved.

-The platform and fighter cannot be blown off the ship. However, if the ship breaks up the fighter will display damage.

-Because of limitations with SH3's aircraft spawning routines the aircraft only has a chance of spawning when the vessel is within a land-based spawning radius. A ship with an airgroup acts as a trigger for the airbases on land, instead of acting as an independent airbase.

Distinguishing Features: Split superstructure, three masts, 10 cargo booms, midships hold, raked bow, rounded stern, anti-mine acoustic hammer on forecastle.

Configuration: MMKFM ((M)ast (M)ast (K)ingpost (F)unnel (M)ast)

Large Catapult Armed Merchantman. These ships were designed as an emergency stopgap measure to provide air cover to convoys early in the war, when few escort carriers were available. Their aircraft complement usually consisted of two early-model Hawker Hurricanes, although occasionally Fulmars were used. One fighter was mounted at a time. Along with the typical complement of merchant seamen the CAM-Ships carried two pilots and from 4 to 10 other aviation staff. Once an enemy aircraft had been sighted the RAF support crew would ignite the rockets under the plane's fuselage, propelling it off the bow-mounted catapult. There were no facilities for recovering the aircraft. After an engagement the pilot was forced to bail out, ditch his plane, or attempt to reach a land base before running out of fuel. In all 35 vessels were converted. At least seven German aircraft were shot down by Hurricats in exchange for 12 CAM Ships sunk. Better air coverage as the war progressed meant that the CAM Ships became unnecessary, and records indicate that the remaining vessels had their equipment removed by mid-1943.

Special thanks to the beta testers for the Empire Freighter and all members of the Subsim community who contributed.

I'm Sorry the standard Empire Ship has length of 136m the model is 147m that is very noticable difference. There are longer Empire ships but extra kingpost and mast are fitted to cope with the cargo handling.Whoever making or downloading this,You might wana review model M35B and M36B together.
