View Full Version : Commanding Milk Cows?
Hey all, I was thinking what it might be like to actually command one of the milch cows. I appreciate that to keep it historically accurate you would have a more limited fighting time 1941-1944 (?) but as someone who enjoys the challenge of evasion as much as that of hunting I think it would be really interesting. It would be great to have a grid reference for refuelling and then having to establish contact with other uboats. Once done then you have to stay surfaced for a minimum amount of time (weather dependent?) until you complete refuelling.
Ok this isn't everyones cup of tea but I like the idea.
Has anyone done this yet or is there a modder(s) who would be up to the challenge?
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I did a search and couldn't track anything down.

Hi mcbee:) This sounds like a great "single mission" Ihope you get alot of response on this. Good Luck & Good Hunting
Yeah, sounds good! Not bad at all!
Good idea. This could be interesting. The AI U-boats would be the tricky part.

Sounds like an idea for Silent Hunter 4.

Just don't expect to live too long....I think all but 2 were sunk by mid-43....they were slow to dive and comparitively HUGE ASDIC targets....
Yeah good point Steeltrap but I still want to have a try! For me its another angle on the war which is worth exploring...just need to persuade one of the modders to have a go at creating a milch cow.:hmm:

If you created a milkcow you would still be the only sub on the sea
Even if you scripted AI subs they would have to be in a certain place at the right time for YOU to find them - they wont find you
Its a good idea but very limited use for the amount of work involved
Now a minelayer sub you could use for 2 or 3 missions before returning to your normal sub is certainly an idea
Sadly these types of missions are the sort of thing missing from SH3
Oh well it was worth a go  . I still think it could work by turning the current milch cow idea on its head...ie. put numerous subs in various places for certain period of time and then get the milch cow commander to find them...whilst dodging every plane. ship and mutant dolphin.
Ok back to thinking up more ideas...:hmm:

:hmm: I like the idea of "secondary" sub missions, especially the mining could be interesting :)
