View Full Version : Help! Grey Wolves crashes when trying to load up!

I had a "small" disaster with XP last week which forced me to start all over again. After reinstalling the essential software to allow "smooth" running of my PC I finally turned to Silent Hunter for some badly missed gameplay.

After making a clean install of SH3 and patching to 1.4b I then installed The Grey Wolves mod using the installer version. Every thing was okay until I tried to run SH3 with Grey Wolves. On loading up prior to the game menu screens I noticed the progress indicator got to about 50 to 60% and then stopped moving with very little HDD activity, after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del keys I received the following errors;

Followed by this one after clicking on "OK"

After accepting this message I get the usual "Windows has had to close this program do you want to send an error report, blah, blah, blah...."

This has never happened to me before and I cannot understand why it does not work now. I have also tried this before installing SH3 Commander and after installing - yet to no avail.

I have posted the same problem on the UBI SH3 forum as well and so far no response, hopefully someone here may have an idea as to what is wrong.

If anyone could shed some light on this I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks

Problem solved!

I had forgotten to install DirectX, I had mistakenly thought it was installed along with my NVIDIA drivers :damn:

It's nice to get help, but it's a lot more satisfying figuring it out on your own, isn't it? ;)

You don't know how right you are, I had spent a few hours installing reinstalling SH3 until I was blue in the face. It wasn't until I was at work earlier on when I rather abstractly thought "What about DirectX?" I pretty much dismissed it hence the post here, but the thought came back and I thought "What the hell!!..it has to be worth a shot"...and it worked!!!
