Hi everybody :)

I can't use SH3cdr with NYGM mod (Crashs, bugs ...). So, I've made an installation without sh3cdr and all is okay.

But I would like to restore the historical background on the missions loading screens in campaigns. You see ? The news of the month.
How can I restore them without use SH3cdr ?

Thank for your help :)

Maybe, but I don't know what is wrong in my installation.
I've made it, 3 times, clean of course, exactly like in the readme, line by line.

I've posted about my problems with NYGM and SH3cdr in an another post, some days ago, and nobody know why I've crashs and other bugs. This morning, I've made a last installation and I've started a mission : Error and back to windows after some minutes only.:damn:

Then, I've installed the game without SH3cdr and all work properly.

My installation :
1- SH3 + Patch 1.4
2- NYGM and optionnal mods
3- SH3cdr
4- Files SH3cdr (NYGM doc)
5- Delete randomise Events 19xx

I've also 3 others mods : Pascal smoke, DB sounds and Furbar's crew skins, not incompatible, I think (They work very well with NYGM only)

If you have an idea for my problems or to restore Background, I want it  :D

Did you rollback SH3Cmdr before you re-installed SH3? If not, that's your problem.

If you follow the below steps *exactly*, you won't have problems (as NYGM and SH3Cmdr users will attest):

1- Open SH3Cmdr and press the "Rollback SH3" button
2- Uninstall SH3
3- In Windows Explorer DELETE the remaining SH3 installation folder (there WILL be files left behind)
4- Reinstall SH3
5- Reinstall v1.4b patch
6- (Optional) install JSGME into your SH3 folder
7- Install or enable NYGM into your SH3 installation
8- Copy NYGM files into SH3Cmdr *exactly* as specified in the NYGM readme
9- Follow whatever other instructions are in the NYGM readme
10- Load SH3 via SH3Cmdr

Otherwise, sorry, you miss out on those specific SH3Cmdr features - short of writing your own programme utilising your own datafiles. ;)

Yes, I've installed exactly as you write.

The last SH3 installation was after a HD format and windows reinstallation (I didn't need rollback :D ).
I don't understand but without SH3cdr 2.61, all work very well. I'm very disapointed because I prefer to play with your soft.

I'll try it with an other version of NYGM or SH3cdr. May be a thing doesn't work with my system. I don't know .

Is it possible the graphics and sounds modifications (Pascal smoke, DB sounds and Furbar's crew skins) I've installed cause an incompatibility with NYGM+SH3cdr ?

Hi I read this post with interest as I too have been having difficulties with the latest vers of SHCommmander and the latest NYGM.

I've been intouch with Teddy Bar who suggested the clean install routine etc which I have done.

With SHComm I am able to run one patrol, but when starting the game next time, the game freezes while loading the next patrol. The red load bar inches its way from left to right while I read the latest war news, but then the load bar just stops and the whole thing just freezes, I have to reboot the whole computer to get it running.

Now it seems to me the problem is with SHCommander, because when I load Fubars skins on top of NYGM there is no issue, but when I install Fubars skins and try to start the game via SHCommander, I get the crash. I can live without SHCommander but not NYGM and Fubars skins and other mods that might turn up from time to time.

Funny thing is I recon earlier versions of SHComm were more robust and could cope with a variety of mods.

Interesting that with only three *minor* SH3Cmdr releases over the last twelve months and no non-user related compatibility problems reported by anyone other than a small subset of NYGM 2.2 users, that you would make such an unfounded comment.

You must remember that whilst SH3Cmdr is developed as dynamic and generic as possible to cater for future creations, the fact is, at this point in time I am not aware of Uncle Martha's latest supa-dupa mod pack being released in two months time.

Think about it.

This is where the mod developers have a role to play - as SH3Cmdr is used by a much broader populace than any one mod (I don't necessarily mean in numbers, I mean SH3Cmdr users may play only GW, or NYGM, or IUB, or RUb, or vanilla, or...) mod developers need to test their creations with SH3Cmdr for compatibility.

If compatibility problems are identified, it's up to the developers to fix them or work with me as appropriate.

And to my knowledge NYGM did that. I was approached and worked through some issues. The NYGM team obviously play tested NYGM 2.2 with SH3Cmdr because they released a set of NYGM specific files for SH3Cmdr. These files are actually needed because NYGM, NOT SH3Cmdr, modifies the file structure and content of certain SH3 files in a way that could never have been foreseen by me.

Now explain to me how SH3Cmdr can be less robust or can't cope with mod variety when there are countless NYGM, GW, IUB, RUb, UBWA, etc etc users all happily running it?

Your problem is not with SH3Cmdr. Your problem is with setting up NYGM 2.2 to work with SH3Cmdr. Now if DTB finds that when helping you guys that there *is* a compatibility problem between NYGM and SH3Cmdr, to be blunt, it's up to him to rectify it or contact me if he can't, then it's up to me to rectify it.

However, as NYGM 2.2 seems to work for other SH3Cmdr users, I don't think that's the problem...

HI there and thanks for your reply. Firstly I contacted DTB and he alerted me to the additioanl files in the latest version of NYGM docs, he in no way critisised SHCommander, but tried to tell me how to properly set up the two to work together.
When I followed his advise I got SHComm and NYGM to work together.

The problems start when I try to add additioanl mods into the mix, there is someting about NYGM or SHComm or both that does not sit well when other mods are included on top of both.

I went through the installation process with Teddy Bar, and installed the additioanl files from the NYGM docs. I had a clean install of SH3 moded to Patch 4B, I then installed the files in the NYGM docs and Jonesoft and SHComm.

I started the game and everything worked fine, except, I was back to the stock SH3 skins, so installed some Fubar skins via Jonesoft and this is where my problem started.

The fact is I dont blame either NYGM or SHComm or any one else. One expects that when you run a game with multiple mods, some of these mods may clash. As a result of this I made a decision to drop a bunch of mods and put up with what was left, at this stage I am unwilling to drop NYGM and as it works with Fubars skins independant of SGComm that is the reason for my decision,

Did you downloaud the NYGM Compatible skins from File Front: http://hosted.filefront.com/TeddyBar/

I feel that the reason the issue is occuring when using SH3 Cmdr is that the NYGM SH3 Cmdr files are for the NYGM DAT files. Different hex code addresses etc.

It may be quicker to do a re-install of the TW 2.2 over a SHIII 1.4B and then add the NYGM.

I hope this helps.

Thanks to DTB and JScones for getting involved with this.

DTB I had no idea ther were specific Fubar SKins for TW/NYGM, this may be the root of the problem and I am downloading the new skins right now. I will try as you suggest to re-install of the TW 2.2 over a SHIII 1.4B and then add the NYGM using the new FUBAR skins then I'll go for SHCommander again and see what happens.

I think half my problem is that I like many others on this forum seem to spend more time downloading mods and tweaks for this game than playing it!@#!#^^
