View Full Version : Needing lower water density.
I installed SH3 commander to lighten the underwater views after installing the GW mods. I have the density setting to '0' which does improve the situation a lot over the darker GW sea. However I would still prefere it to be a little lighter if possible, as I am missing a lot of the more interesting underwater views beyond a short / medium sort of range, such as DC attacks, sinking ships etc. Is there any way to alter the SH3 commander files somehow to reduce the density figure even further, or into minus figures as I supose it might be. It just needs to be slightly paler, but it would help a lot.

You actually should be setting a *higher* value. The stock SH3's setting is 18. Try that and see how it goes,
Here's 2 screenshots of water density set at 19 by SH3 Commander. 1st shot was taken at 04:53 July 17,'43 ingame at 120 meters.

Second was taken same day at 05:30 at appx 20 meters. Coming up after being hunted by 2 Corvettes to sink a crippled Liberty Cargo ship.

These will give an idea of what JS is saying.

It's curious that there are not almost difference between 0 and 20 stting in clear water...at least for me it always looks as the last image...I have reinstalled SH3 following, GW, SH3commander...strange
And the same about the waves height, I can't see any difference. Could someone post (or link) some screens to see what difference do you get?
DBS, wave height will depend on the weather. Doesn't your SHIII weather change? Or maybe I don't understand what you mean.

This video is recorded with GW and water opacity set to 18 or 19. The video is also a little bit darker than it is when I play:

Sorry, I meant the water clarity (density, in the shIII commander game options). I have tried the above advice and raised the density figure to 20 which has helped a lot.

If you want to manually edit the Scene.dat file, to improve the underwater visibility, here you have a little guide :

Thanks, that has helped a lot.

Well, I just look for some comparison screens of the same weather with and without wave height (i.e. x2) activated. As I am new to this, and I just begin with SH3Commander & GW mod installed, I don't have in my memory how were the waves without height mod. Maybe when I will be more advanced in some campaign I could reload some savegames with and without wave height mod. Tx anyway
On the other side, I have seen now the difference between 0 and 20 stting in clear water. But still at 20 it is quite darker than the stock water. I wonder if it can rolled back using the guide linked above.
