Number of Depth Charges carried by Black Swan and Flower DE's

I know that Flower class DE's run out of DC's after a dozen or so passes. Black Swan's (very dangerous) can stay above me for much longer periods of time and drop many more DC's. Does someone know exactly how many DC's each of these boats carries?

The class was easy to construct, with a single screw, but above all they could be rolled out from non Naval Yards across the United Kingdom. In all, some 221 Flower Class or Modified Flower Class Corvettes came off the slipways in UK and Canada, alas only one of this breed remains today, launched in 1941, HMCS Sackville, now fully restored, is on display at Halifax in Nova Scotia (http://www.steelnavy.com/Sackville.htm), the port of departure for so many east bound convoys over 1939- 1945. These little ships, with a relatively short length of 205/208 feet, had a small turning circle, and eventually carried up to 50 depth charges, had a long range of 3,850 miles at 12 knots on only 213 tons of oil fuel, very economical.

My personal belief is that they carried various amounts of DC' depending on where they were set to patrol.... Correct me if im wrong, but in war, that seem to be the most obvious. :hmm:

Warships also replenished there depth charge load when on escort duty. Spare Depth Charges were stored on selected tankers in a convoy, so escorts could get more if they ran out or ran low.

I tricked a Flower Corvette and sunk it with my Deck Gun; I think they must have been Drunk and had extra crates of beer onboard :dead: as the tonnage came out at 1250. Don't get much renown for this though for what's involved.

Tip of the day.. If you have to take on a nasty ship on the surface in the middle of the night.. take out the guns first [forget about hitting below the waterline until later]. Once the guns have been blown up into the sky [great sight !] the ship is dead in the water :up: !

Certain Ships that were in the "Lend Lease" when transfered over to the UK, The main design difference between the Royal Navy frigates the United States Navy destroyer escorts was that the British ships had the forward torpedo tubes removed along with the ice cream makers, the iced water fountains, the dishwashers, and laundries (in some ships). More depth charges were fitted on the upper deck each side of the ship (allowing for about 200 in total), and the steel work around the binnacle had to be replaced by non-ferrous materials. The American gyrocompasses were replaced with the Admiralty pattern ones and the MK IV elevating column Oerlikon mountings were replaced with the simpler MK V1A mountings.

I've done that before a couple of times, some times it's the only way to get them off your back, and if they are the only convoy escort, you are now free to sit around on the surface lobbing torps and shells to your hearts content. If you attack from behind them, they can only shoot you with AA guns, and only then if you are less than 2000-1500 metres, not sure of the exact distance, but it doesn't really matter, AA does almost no damage to you anyways. Good Hunting!

I had a ship over me (can't remember the type), that was DC-ing me for around 1 h. If those weren't 100 depth charges, then I don't think what is. Sehe passed me at least 15 times, and every time she dropped around 8-10 DC!!! :huh: And she still kept going on. In the end I surfaced and got myself blown into shreds!

The most frustrating part of this episode is he was the only convoy escort and by the time 'he'd' ran my batteries down to 10%, I surfaced and engaged him etc. I couldn't find the rotten convoy ! I was that frustrated, tufts of my hair started falling onto the keyboard :damn: .

Nah, do they? - I never have any problems outrunning corvettes on the surface. My standard tactic is to run away from them at 16 knots, keeping them at around 200-240 (or 160-120) bearing and 2500m range(they never seem to close at that distance, thats why I'm sure they only do 16 knots in game). At that range they cant seem to hit me, and I can pick of their gun turret with my deck gun. After that, just circle around them and sink them.

Now THERE's something I'll bet a lot of real U-boat kapitans wished they could do. In real life the corvette was just as hard to hit as the u-boat, and it only took one hit to make the u-boat a very poor surface ship.

I have to agree with Steve on that, and those who hit elcos with the deck gun? OMG that would be good gunnery indeed, in reality it would be a fluke at best and by the time you've managed to get a fix on firing, their guns would've mowed down several gun crews.
My issue though is ship speed on AI ships, they've got our speeds word perfect, but I've seen flowers & swans and fleet carriers all moving at above 21kts. This admittedly only happens when they are grouped into a TF, but it still happens.

Heheh for sure. I have only used that tactic once in my realistic campaign(and it felt cheap afterwards, took out two corvettes and a destroyer with my deck gun, leaving me with a huge unescorted convoy to play with) - but in my reckless, free for all campaign I often tend to use this :)

29 DCs stored in stowage chocks abreast the engine room casing

Total: 51

Corvettes fitted with magnetic minesweeping arrangements:
10 DCs stored in top rails and 12 DCs stored in bottom rails (two each)
~30 DCs in stowage chocks
4 DCs on throwers
Total: 78

Modified corvettes (1943)
9 DCs per rail (two rails)
8 DCs per storage rail (two rails)
24 DCs stored in stowage chocks abreast engine room casing
4 DCs on throwers
Total: 62

cheat ? Let me tell you I didn't find it easy to hit the gun as it was bearing down on me whilst pitching and rolling and at night !
